Hair Transplant Cost by Country: What Clinics Actually Publish (2026)
In the US, published totals for a hair transplant mostly run from about $4,000 to $15,000. Healthline's cost guide (2023) gives that range, and Bosley, a US chain, says most of its procedures cost $6,000 to $12,000. A few clinics charge more: Jae Pak MD Medical prints $9 a graft, and one New York clinic publishes $25,000 to $40,000.
At the $3.50 to $9 a graft that MAXIM, Nova Medical and Jae Pak publish, 2,500 grafts comes to $8,750 to $22,500 by our arithmetic.
This page sets those numbers beside what clinics in the UK, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Mexico, India and Thailand publish. Thailand is the focus of our hair transplant in Thailand guide, but you need the other countries to judge a Thai quote.
One caution: there is no single average price, and the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) says why below. Every clinic price here is that clinic's published figure, in its own currency. Where we use a guide, a survey or patient reports, we say so. These are marketing pages, not quotes. Nobody at AsiaPatient has had the procedure or visited these clinics (see our editorial policy).
How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost? The Short Answer by Country
One row per country, in the currency each clinic uses. FUE (follicular unit extraction) and FUT (follicular unit transplantation, or strip harvesting) are the two main techniques. Our conversions to US dollars come in the 2,500-graft table.
| Country | Clinics named | Published prices | Basis and what is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Bosley, Jae Pak MD Medical, MAXIM, Nova Medical, Hair Restoration of the South | Totals: Bosley $4,400 to $12,000, Nova $4,000 to $15,000, Hair Restoration of the South $4,000 to $10,000. Per graft: MAXIM $3.50 to $6, Nova $3.99 to $7.99, Jae Pak $9 | Totals and per-graft rates. Hair Restoration of the South includes follow-up visits |
| United Kingdom | Westminster Medical Group, Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinic, My Hair UK, Capital Hair Restoration | 2,500 grafts: £6,900 (Westminster), £6,000 to £6,500 (Harley Street), £4,099 (My Hair UK). Capital: FUE from £3,995 | Totals by graft count. Westminster includes 12 months of aftercare; Harley Street includes medicines and follow-up sessions |
| Canada | Sure Hair, Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic, Hasson & Wong | Sure Hair $4.00 per graft. Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic CAD 4,000 to CAD 15,000, grafts $5 to $6. Hasson & Wong FUE $8 per graft for the first 2,000, then $6 | Per graft. Taxes are extra at Sure Hair (13% Ontario HST) and in the Hasson & Wong calculator |
| Australia | Knudsen Clinic, The Crown Clinic, GRO Clinics | Knudsen 2,500 grafts $17,600 FUE, $14,850 FUT (strip), each plus a $1,100 theatre fee. Crown $4,990 for about 1,500 grafts. GRO from around $8,000 | Schedule, package and ranges. Knudsen's prices include GST, and its $1,100 theatre fee is charged in addition; Crown calls its price all-inclusive |
| Turkey | Smile Hair Clinic, Cosmedica, Hermest, Elithair | Smile €2,390 to €5,790. Cosmedica €2,550 to €8,000. Hermest €2,890 to €5,450. Elithair $3,999 for 2,500 grafts | Packages with a hotel and transfers; Smile, Hermest and Elithair exclude flights. Only Elithair prices by graft count |
| Mexico | TJ Hair System, Cancun Hair Restoration | TJ from $3,950 for 2,500 to 3,000 follicles. Cancun says $1.00 to $2.50 per graft | From-price packages. TJ counts follicles, not grafts, and includes transport and meals. Cancun gives a market statement, not its own rates |
| India | Dr. Haror's Wellness, hairtransplantdelhi.com, Eugenix Hair Sciences | INR 35 to INR 50 per graft (Mumbai). Rs 40 per graft (Delhi, undated). ₹100 to ₹500+ per graft (Eugenix, a general statement) | Per graft. The Delhi page says "The cost includes all" and also applies a 15% service tax to all fees; Eugenix publishes no fixed rate |
| Thailand | Hairsmith, HairTran, CosmoPrime, Thai Hair Clinic (Chiang Mai) | ฿80 per graft (Hairsmith). FUE from ฿102,000 (HairTran). ฿79,990 for 2,500 grafts on CosmoPrime's Thai page. US$3.00 per graft (Thai Hair Clinic) | Per graft and "starting" packages. Hairsmith includes 12 months of hair growth medications; Thai Hair Clinic calls its price "all-inclusive" |
The Canadian and Australian clinics mostly print a bare dollar sign. We read those as Canadian and Australian dollars from the country and the tax wording (HST, GST); Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic names its currency. Prices were read from each clinic's own page on 10 October 2026. Clinics change them, so confirm in writing before you pay a deposit.
The Average Cost of a Hair Transplant: Why This Page Prints None
The ISHRS doesn't stand behind one. Its 2022 practice census used an "average fee" to estimate a $4.5 billion world market from 703,183 procedures in 2021, then said that fee "should not be construed as a typical price for a hair restoration procedure."
Its 2025 census prints no average fee. A global average cost built from the 2022 market figure uses the number the way the ISHRS warns against.
How to Read a Hair Transplant Price
Three kinds of price sit in the table, and they don't compare directly.
- Per graft. The ISHRS says most surgeons "charge per graft", while a few charge "a set amount for the procedure based on a projected graft range". Hair Restoration of the South charges "a flat session charge" for a graft range.
- Package. One price for the whole treatment. Smile says "Graft count never changes the price at any tier", and Hermest says it "does not price by graft". Elithair prices by graft count and adds a flat $105 for each 500 grafts added on the day.
- Total for a stated graft count. Westminster Medical Group runs from £3,500 for 500 grafts up to £7,900 for 3,500 grafts.
A graft isn't a hair. Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic says "1 graft holds 1 to 4 hairs". Westminster counts 2,500 grafts as 5,000 hairs, and Crown counts 3,000 hairs as 1,500 grafts. Ask which unit a quote uses, and what it includes.
Hair Transplant Cost by Country: Where the Clinic Pages Disagree
United States
Jae Pak MD Medical's price table says $9 per FUE graft and $7 per FUT graft. Its FAQ on the same page says $8 and $6, and that a full transplant "typically ranges from $10,000 to $18,000". We show both and don't average them.
MAXIM says its price "ranges between $3.50 and $6" per graft, against "$7 to $10" for the Austin average, which is its own comparison. An older New York post says FUE "starts at $3.95 per graft and can go up to $6 per graft". At the top, AlviArmani says FUE "generally start at $12,000", and a Kopelman Hair Restoration blog post says New York transplants "typically range from $25,000 to $40,000". That is one clinic, so treat it as an outlier.
United Kingdom
UK clinics print totals, not rates. By our arithmetic Westminster's £6,900 is £2.76 a graft. My Hair UK prints "£1.64 per graft" for its £4,099 and says UK clinics "widely quote £6,000 to £7,000", which is the clinic's market claim. Wimpole Clinic puts the UK average at £4,820 for 1,500 grafts from its own survey, one clinic's estimate and not an audited average.
Canada
We found three Canadian clinics that publish figures, so the evidence is thin. Sure Hair says "our cost is $4.00 per/graft", yet also that 2,500 to 3,000 FUE grafts average $7,000 to $9,000 plus 13% HST. That works out at $2.33 to $3.60 a graft, our arithmetic. We show both. Hasson & Wong's rates sit in its cost calculator settings, not in the page's visible text.
Australia
Of the Australian clinics we read, only Knudsen prints a 2,500-graft price. Its schedule adds a $1,100 theatre fee (including GST) on top of every price, so its 2,500-graft FUE total is AUD 18,700 (AUD 17,600 plus the fee) and its FUT total is AUD 15,950. With the fee that is AUD 7.48 a graft for FUE at 2,500 grafts (our arithmetic). Crown's $4,990 is $3.33 a graft for about 1,500 grafts, our arithmetic.
Turkey
All four clinics sell packages. Only Elithair prices by graft count, and its fixed price covers "the entire treatment" (flights excluded). Cosmedica's €2,550 FUE tier covers up to 4,000 grafts, which is why we don't turn any package into a per-graft rate.
Mexico
Of the two Mexican clinics we read, one publishes its own rate card. TJ Hair System lists packages from $3,950 (2,500 to 3,000 follicles), $4,450 (4,000 to 4,500) and $4,950 (5,000 to 6,000). It counts follicles, not grafts, so the first isn't a 2,500-graft price. Cancun's "between $1.00 and $2.50 USD" per graft is a market statement. The CDC says US medical tourists most commonly travel to Mexico and Canada, for all kinds of care.
India
Three clinics, a spread of ten times or more, so no average. Figures are Indian rupees unless noted. Dr. Haror's Wellness gives INR 35 to INR 50 per graft; its INR 30 to INR 70 for Mumbai clinics is its own claim, not a survey. The Delhi page gives Rs 40 for Indian patients and USD 0.7 for international patients, is undated and carries 2016-era tax wording. Eugenix says costs are typically "₹100 to ₹500+" and that it "does not publish a fixed per-graft figure".
Thailand
Dollars at ฿33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026).
- Hairsmith (Bangkok) says 80 baht per graft ($2.41, 2025 pricing), with a 1,000-graft minimum. Non-shaven FUE is 120 baht.
- HairTran says its FUE hair transplant "starts at 102,000 THB" ($3,080), with no graft count attached. Non-shaven FUE is 100 THB per graft.
- Thai Hair Clinic, in Chiang Mai rather than Bangkok, charges "a flat rate of US$3.00/graft for FUE".
- CosmoPrime's Thai-language page lists a "starting" FUE package of ฿79,990 for 2,500 grafts, about ฿32 a graft by our arithmetic.
- Others publish less. Absolute Hair Clinic gives only a starting figure of about 30,000 baht on an older Thai-language page, not a per-graft price.
Patient posts are separate from clinic prices. They put what patients paid at ฿36 to ฿123 per graft ($1.09 to $3.71) across five Bangkok clinics (patient-reported, 31 reports and quotes, 2023 to 2026), and most reports at three of those clinics fall at ฿65 to ฿90. For Thai rates by technique, see our hair transplant cost in Thailand page.
A Fair Comparison: 2,500 Grafts From Published Prices
The ISHRS 2025 census reports that members average 2,262 grafts per FUE hair transplant case and 2,347 on a patient's first procedure. Those questions had 185 and 173 member responses. We use 2,500 as a round number near both. It isn't advice on how many grafts anyone needs. Packages with no graft count stay out, because dividing a package by an assumed graft count would invent a price.
| Country | Clinic | Basis | Local currency | Our conversion to US dollars |

| United States | Jae Pak MD Medical, FUE | $9 per graft in its table, $8 in its FAQ, x 2,500 | $22,500 or $20,000 | $22,500 or $20,000 |
| United Kingdom | My Hair UK | Published total | £4,099 | $5,420 |

| Australia | Knudsen Clinic, FUE | Published total, including GST, plus the $1,100 theatre fee it charges in addition | AUD 18,700 | $13,050 |
| Turkey | Elithair | Published total, with hotel and VIP transfer, flights excluded | $3,999 | $3,999 |
| Mexico | TJ Hair System | From-price package, 2,500 to 3,000 follicles, not grafts | $3,950 | $3,950 |
| India | Dr. Haror's Wellness | INR 35 to INR 50 per graft x 2,500 | INR 87,500 to 125,000 | $900 to $1,290 |

| Thailand | Hairsmith | ฿80 per graft x 2,500 | ฿200,000 | $6,040 |
| Thailand | CosmoPrime, Thai page, FUE | "Starting" package for 2,500 grafts | ฿79,990 | $2,410 |
| Thailand | Thai Hair Clinic, Chiang Mai | US$3.00 per graft x 2,500 | $7,500 | $7,500 |
Rows built from a rate are our arithmetic; rows built from a published total are the clinic's own figure. Our conversions use the European Central Bank reference rates of 9 October 2026 (per euro: 1.1206 US dollars, 0.84763 pounds, 1.5942 Canadian dollars, 1.6052 Australian dollars, 108.3965 rupees), rounded to the nearest $10. Baht are at ฿33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026).
In this table the published Thai figures run from $2,410 to $7,500 and the US figures from $8,750 to $22,500. The UK, Canadian and Australian rows run from $5,420 to $13,360. Elithair's $3,999 and TJ Hair System's $3,950 sit inside the Thai range, and the Indian rows sit below it. The table compares prices as published, not like for like: a lower total isn't evidence of the same work.
Patient-reported Thai prices (31 reports and quotes, 2023 to 2026) come to ฿162,500 to ฿225,000 ($4,900 to $6,790) for 2,500 grafts at the ฿65 to ฿90 most reports fall at, our arithmetic. Across the full reported range of ฿36 to ฿123 it is ฿90,000 to ฿307,500 ($2,720 to $9,280).
What Drives the Price
The ISHRS says the cost of FUE is "very broad" and depends on the surgeon's experience and type of practice. A 2025 review of hair transplant tourism, a narrative review that uses Turkey as its case study, says "significant price variations may correlate with differences in resources, surgeon experience, technology, and safety protocols." In the published prices, five things move the number.
- Graft count. How many grafts you need depends on your hair loss. Westminster lists "the type of hair loss experienced, available donor hair for transplantation" among the factors that change a London price. Hasson & Wong says larger surgeries can reduce "the overall average cost per graft", and its rates drop from $8 to $6 after 2,000 grafts. Knudsen's schedule does the same: with its $1,100 theatre fee included, AUD 10.45 a graft at 1,000 grafts, AUD 8.25 at 2,000 and AUD 7.48 at 2,500 (our arithmetic).
- Technique. The ISHRS says FUE may cost more than FUT because it is "more labor intensive for the physician", and FUT (strip harvesting) is usually cheaper. Non-shaved FUE is "usually charged at a higher price". Jae Pak charges $9 for FUE and $7 for FUT, and Hairsmith 80 baht against 120 baht non-shaven. Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinic reverses it, saying FUT typically costs £500 to £1,000 more than FUE. For FUE alone, our FUE cost page lists per-graft prices clinic by clinic.
- Who does the work. The American Academy of Dermatology says the outcome "still depends largely on the surgeon you select". Smile's €2,390 Gold package lists sapphire incision and manual implantation "by our surgical technicians". Cosmedica's €8,000 tier lists "Operation incision by Dr. Acar". These are clinics describing themselves, not findings about a country.
- Where the clinic is. Healthline says the cost of living in the area and the number of nearby surgeons affect what a surgeon charges, and that "higher rates don't always mean superior skill".
- What is bundled. Hotel and transfers, a year of aftercare, 12 months of medicines, follow-up visits, and whether tax is in the figure.
The Extra Costs of Going Abroad
A price isn't a trip total. Four costs sit outside most quotes.
- Flights. Smile, Hermest and Elithair exclude them. Hermest estimates a round-trip economy flight from the US to Istanbul at $500 to $1,000, and Smile about $650 to $1,200 from New York. Those are two Turkish clinics' estimates. We have no sourced airfare to Thailand, so we print none: price a flight from your own city.
- Hotel and meals. Smile puts meals beyond breakfast at €15 to €40 a day in Istanbul. We have no sourced figure for Thai hotel nights or meals either. Our Thailand packages page covers all-inclusive options.
- Time away. HairTran recommends "at least two weeks for your entire hair transplant journey", and "a minimum of three days" for patients short of time. We have no sourced figure for days off work. Our guide on how long to stay in Thailand covers trip length.
- Follow-up and repair. The NHS says overseas clinics "may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK". The CDC Yellow Book says "some overseas facilities and healthcare professionals charge substantial fees for follow-up care in addition to the base cost". The NHS page covers cosmetic surgery abroad; the CDC covers medical tourism in general. See our page on follow-up from Thailand.
Insurance is a cost too. GOV.UK warns that standard travel insurance "does not normally cover you if you travelled abroad for elective surgery". Our page on medical tourism insurance for hair transplants in Thailand covers what to ask an insurer.
Why the Cheapest Quote Can Cost More
A low price isn't proof of bad work, and a high price isn't proof of good work. What matters is who does the extraction and who places the grafts.
In November 2019 the ISHRS launched its Fight The FIGHT campaign against unlicensed non-physicians performing hair restoration surgery. Its announcement says patients are lured by "misleading advertising claims promising low prices and guaranteed results". Problems its members report include scarring, unnatural hairlines, poor hair growth, wrong hair direction, depleted donor area and infections.
That statement is about unscrupulous clinics in Turkey, Iran and several countries in Europe, where it says "the vast majority of patients" are treated by technicians "who do not have medical licenses or surgical training". It gives no count and doesn't describe every clinic there. It adds that illicit clinics in the US and Canada "operate in a more subtle way" with a "turn-key" approach, so the problem is not only an overseas one.
The ISHRS 2025 census asked members about repair cases "due to a previous Black Market hair transplant". The average was 10% and the median 5%, and 91.0% of members reported 0% to 25%. Only 155 members answered that question, and the figures are self-reported, so they say nothing about how often repairs happen across all patients or in one country. The CDC Yellow Book adds that "Complications, including infections and surgical revisions for unsatisfactory results, can compound initial costs."
Hasson & Wong, a clinic with an interest, says "a good portion of our business is devoted to hair transplant repairs". Hairsmith publishes the only repair price we found: 100 baht per graft for FUE against 80 for a first procedure. For 2,500 grafts that is 250,000 baht against 200,000 baht, our arithmetic, assuming the same graft count. No source gives a typical repair cost.
The practical step is to ask before you pay. Our pages on safety and accreditation in Thailand and on clinic guarantees cover what Thai clinics say.
Where Thailand Fits in the Cost Picture
Thai clinics publish per-graft rates, "starting" prices and packages, and the rows above show what they say, not what a patient will pay. Our Thailand cost page has the Thai detail, and the Thailand vs Turkey comparison sets the two side by side. Neither replaces a written quote for your own graft count.
Questions to Ask Any Clinic Before You Pay a Deposit
These come from the ISHRS and NHS question lists, plus the inclusions that moved the numbers above. Send every clinic the same photos of your hair loss and donor area, and ask for a quote on the same graft count.
- Who will evaluate me, and who will operate? The NHS says to have a consultation with the surgeon and "avoid meetings only with sales people".
- "Will anyone not licensed by the state (or country) be making incisions or harvesting grafts during my surgery?" (ISHRS)
- "Is everyone involved in my surgery covered by malpractice insurance?" (ISHRS)
- Is the quote per graft, a package or a total, and what happens to the price if my graft count changes?
- What does it include: medicines, follow-up visits, hotel, transfers, taxes? Ask for the list in writing.
- Where will follow-up happen, and what does it cost at home?
- What do I pay and when, and what is refundable? Is financing offered? Our booking guide covers deposits and steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a hair transplant cost?
In the US, published totals mostly run from about $4,000 to $15,000, according to Healthline and US clinics. Outside the US, clinics publish per-graft rates, totals for a graft count or all-inclusive packages, so the numbers aren't directly comparable. The country table lists each clinic's currency and what is included.
How much does a hair transplant cost per graft?
MAXIM, Nova Medical and Jae Pak in the US publish $3.50 to $9 a graft, Sure Hair in Canada $4.00, Hairsmith in Thailand 80 baht, Thai Hair Clinic US$3.00 and Dr. Haror's Wellness in India INR 35 to INR 50. UK and Turkish clinics mostly publish totals and packages instead.
Does insurance cover a hair transplant?
Healthline says these costs are often out of pocket, and that most insurers consider a hair transplant cosmetic. For problems abroad, GOV.UK says standard travel insurance doesn't normally cover people who travelled for elective surgery. See our page on travel insurance for Thailand.
Why does the price vary so much between clinics?
Graft count, technique, who does the work, location and what the price bundles. The ISHRS says the cost of FUE is "very broad". The American Academy of Dermatology says the outcome "still depends largely on the surgeon you select".
Is a hair transplant cheaper abroad once flights and hotels are counted?
It depends on the quote and the trip. Two Istanbul clinics estimate a return flight from the US or New York at $500 to $1,200, and their package prices include a hotel. No source we can cite gives a Thai flight, hotel or time-off figure, so add your own flight quote and hotel nights to any Thai price before you compare it with a price at home.
What is included in a hair transplant price?
It varies. Westminster includes a recovery kit and 12 months of aftercare, Hairsmith 12 months of hair growth medications, Smile a hotel and VIP transfers, and Hair Restoration of the South its follow-up visits. Ask for the inclusions in writing.
Is the cheapest hair transplant safe?
A low price alone isn't proof of poor work. The ISHRS warns about clinics that lure patients with low prices where unlicensed technicians do the surgery. Ask who does the extraction and who places the grafts, and use the question list above.
Can I pay for a hair transplant in installments?
Some clinics show installment prices. Westminster Medical Group prints £575 monthly beside its £6,900 price, and Bosley advertises financing from $129 a month. For paying a Thai clinic from abroad, see our guide to financing and payment.
