3,000 Grafts Hair Transplant in Thailand: Coverage, Clinic Prices and One-Day Sessions
One Bangkok patient considering a hair transplant in Thailand received an estimate of 2,800 to 3,000 grafts: 2,200 for the front and 600 to 800 for the crown. They described that proposed split on r/HairTransplants on 5 September 2026, and wrote that after the pre-op consultation the surgeon said their crown was probably "manageable with medication only."
For a 3,000-graft hair transplant, Hairsmith publishes a rate that calculates to THB 240,000. Coverage needs an individual allocation; Bangkok Hair Clinic says FUE can take one day, but your clinic must confirm your schedule.
This is not a guide to hair loss generally. It answers the narrower question of what a 3,000-graft procedure could involve in Thailand.
The short answer
- Cost: Hairsmith's published THB 80 per graft x 3,000 = THB 240,000. Its page labels that rate 2025 pricing; the clinic table below separates published rates from starting prices.
- Hair count: The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) describes natural groups of one to four hairs. A 3,000-graft count doesn't tell you the exact number of hairs transplanted.
- Time: Bangkok Hair Clinic puts its preferred upper count for one transplant at 2,500 to 3,000 grafts. Its one-day FUE description is a clinic scheduling statement, not a personal surgical plan.
3,000 grafts is not 3,000 hairs
A graft is the group being transplanted. The ISHRS describes follicular units as "natural clusters of hairs grouped in 1-4 hairs each."
FUE means follicular unit excision: individual follicular units are removed for transplantation. The graft count counts those groups, while the hair count counts the hairs within them.
Using the ISHRS definition, the arithmetic endpoints are 3,000 grafts x one hair = 3,000 hairs and 3,000 grafts x four hairs = 12,000 hairs. That span describes the possible arithmetic, not the expected mix in your procedure.
Ask whether the clinic's proposed count refers to grafts or individual hairs. So ask whether it will record both totals after the procedure, letting you compare the plan with what was done.
The distinction also changes how you read a price. Our per-graft versus per-hair pricing guide explains the billing units; don't multiply a per-hair rate by 3,000 grafts.
What 3,000 grafts may cover
The number alone doesn't specify whether the plan treats the front, the crown or both. Bangkok Hair Clinic says the count depends on the scalp region, the size of the treated area and how many grafts can be transplanted.
The surgeon sets the graft count and allocation at consultation.
The patient accounts show different proposed uses for similar counts. A DHT Clinic patient wrote, "Had a total of 3028 grafts placed in the front part of my head," in a r/HairTransplants post dated 10 October 2025.
The Bangkok patient in the opening described an estimate divided between the front and crown. The DHT patient described a completed frontal procedure, so the two accounts concern different allocations as well as slightly different counts.
On Hair Restoration Network, another poster quoted a proposal of "3000 grafts for the front (depending on the desired hairline and density)" with a separate 500-graft crown plan. A different Hair Restoration Network poster reported a recommendation of 2,500 to 3,000 grafts for the frontal area.
These individual plans give you questions to ask. If your quote says only "3,000 grafts," request a drawing of the recipient areas, where the grafts will go, with the count assigned to each.
Ask the surgeon to explain the proposed hairline and density before accepting the count.
If your priority is the crown, make that clear before comparing a quote designed around the front. A frontal proposal doesn't tell you how many grafts the same surgeon would allocate to your crown.
How to read a 3,000-graft price
We separate published prices into three types. The label tells you whether you can calculate a total or still need the clinic to price the proposed count.
| Price label | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Calculated published rate | The clinic prints a per-graft rate. Multiply it by 3,000, keeping any "starting at" or case condition attached. |
| Published package for a stated count | The clinic explicitly prices a package that covers 3,000 grafts. Compare the package's stated contents and count limit. |
| Quote required | The clinic prints a general starting price without a 3,000-graft total. Ask for a written 3,000-graft quote. |
A starting rate per graft allows a starting calculation. A starting price for a whole procedure needs a stated graft count before it answers the 3,000-graft question.
The clinic rows below contain calculable rates and a quote-required starting price. They contain no current published package price for 3,000 grafts.
What 3,000 grafts costs at Thai clinics with published rates
We compare what clinics publish; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited these clinics or had a procedure at them. All clinic rates and included-care offers on this page were read 26 October 2026.
| Clinic and procedure | Price label | Published basis | Arithmetic and total for 3,000 grafts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hairsmith, Bangkok, standard FUE | Calculated published rate | THB 80 per graft, labeled "2025 pricing," minimum 1,000 grafts | THB 80 x 3,000 = THB 240,000 |
| HairTran, Bangkok, shaven FUE | Calculated published starting rate | "Shaven FUE: Starting at 60 THB/graft." Final cost depends on actual grafts and technique | THB 60 x 3,000 = THB 180,000 at the starting rate, subject to a personal quote |
| HairTran, Bangkok, non-shaven FUE | Calculated published rate with case conditions | Generally THB 100 per graft; total varies with graft count and the physician's assessment | THB 100 x 3,000 = THB 300,000, subject to assessment |
| Thailand Hair Transplant Center, Chiang Mai, FUE | Calculated published rate in US dollars | Flat US$3 per graft regardless of count; footer says last updated 2024 / 2025 | US$3 x 3,000 = US$9,000. The clinic quotes dollars; no baht tariff is supplied for this row |
| HairTran, general FUE starting price | Quote required | Procedures start from THB 102,000, without a graft count attached to that figure | No 3,000-graft total is stated for this starting price |
HairTran's shaven and non-shaven calculations price different procedure descriptions. Its THB 102,000 procedure starting price also answers a different question from its per-graft rate.
For Hairsmith, our dollar conversion is THB 240,000 / 33.14 = approximately US$7,242, rounded to US$7,240. Dollars at ฿33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026).
The Chiang Mai clinic's US$9,000 is calculated directly from its dollar rate. It isn't a baht conversion.
So keep the technique and included care beside each total when requesting quotes. For per-graft comparisons outside Thailand, use our FUE cost guide by country.
What those published fees include
Hairsmith lists 12 months of hair-growth medication and follow-up visits every three months for a year. It also lists moisturizing spray, a post-transplant cap, pillow cover, shampoo and scab removal, plus use of a low-level laser cap for a year.
Thailand Hair Transplant Center lists its pre-operative test and treatment, the procedure and lunch. Its package also lists post-operative medicines, pillows and headwear, with daily hair washing and checkups until departure.
So ask which included appointments require you to be at the clinic during recovery and how follow-up works once you're home. Keep flights and accommodation separate in your budget unless your written quote expressly includes them.
Can 3,000 grafts be done in one day?
A one-day procedure is sometimes possible. Bangkok Hair Clinic says its FUE procedure can take six to eight hours in one day, while its separate graft-count article gives 2,500 to 3,000 as its preferred upper count for one transplant.
Those statements don't set a universal limit. The same clinic's shaven procedure page describes a format above 3,000 grafts and says duration depends on scalp condition, difficulty and count.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) gives four to eight hours for a hair transplant generally. It says a large transplant may require a return for a few hours the next day, without setting a 3,000-graft cutoff.
The DHT patient who reported 3,028 grafts said the operation took about ten hours. That account is another reason to get your clinic's schedule for your own procedure rather than assume every 3,000-graft day ends after eight hours.
Get the planned number of sessions and expected procedure-day schedule in writing.
So ask what could change that schedule after the donor area, where the grafts come from, is examined. Confirm whether the proposal assumes shaven or non-shaven work and whether all recipient areas are planned for the same session.
What patients who report 3,000 grafts say
One DHT Clinic patient in Bangkok posted an initial account and later follow-ups about a 3,028-graft frontal FUE procedure. The table follows that person's reports over time.
| Patient post and date | Reported count, cost or timing | What the patient said about progress |
|---|---|---|
| r/HairTransplants, 10 October 2025 | 3,028 grafts; about ten hours; THB 123 per graft and "around 378,840 Baht total" | The initial account places the grafts in the front of the head |
| r/HairTransplants, 15 April 2026 | Six-month update; reported AUD 17,500 for 3,028 FUE grafts | The poster also described weight loss and medication as part of the overall change |
| r/Hairtransplant, 9 August 2026 | Ten-month update from the same poster | "big difference from 6 to 10. Thicker, more natural and less wiry. Blended in better with existing hairs." |
The initial post's figures don't agree: THB 123 x 3,028 = THB 372,444, rather than the reported THB 378,840. The post doesn't explain the difference, so use the clinic's own written quote for your budget.
The ten-month description is the patient's assessment of thickness and texture.
Other Bangkok accounts and quotes
A patient posting about Dr. Ratchathorn on r/HairTransplants on 20 November 2025 wrote, "I got around 3000 grafts, they told me its like 90 baht per graft." They also described returning for scalp cleaning and checks for five to seven days.
That early account gives you an aftercare question to ask before choosing travel dates. So ask your clinic how many visits it proposes for you and whether those visits are included in your quote.
On 2 March 2026, a prospective Bangkok patient wrote on r/HairTransplants, "she offered me 3,000 grafts for 260,000-300,000 baht." That was an individual quote reported by a patient, not a published clinic tariff.
Six months, twelve months and density concerns
The AAD says most patients see results between six and nine months, while some take twelve months. That general timing doesn't predict the density of an individual 3,000-graft procedure.
A poster describing a Netherlands procedure wrote, "It looks patchy and very see-through still," in a six-month, 3,000-graft discussion on r/HairTransplants on 20 March 2025. If you have that concern, ask your treating surgeon to assess the areas you're worried about and explain the follow-up plan.
What to get in writing before you book
A quote needs to describe the work behind the count. We would ask for the following before paying a deposit, including when a clinic uses the quote-required starting-price label above.
- Count and unit. The proposed graft count, whether any figure counts individual hairs, and the planned allocation by recipient area.
- Procedure and people. The technique, shaving plan and which steps the surgeon will perform versus trained staff.
- Price: The applicable per-graft rate or package, total currency, quote date and what happens if the final count differs.
- Included care: The clinic's itemized tests, medicines, supplies and follow-up appointments, with anything charged separately identified.
- Schedule and terms: The number of sessions, expected clinic visits, deposit terms and the rules for changing or canceling dates.
The ISHRS describes graft harvesting as work that should be "physician-driven and performed," while placement is "most often by the trained staff." Ask the clinic to identify who handles each stage of your procedure.
A package that includes medication also needs to say what medication it includes and how long the supply lasts. Discuss suitability with the treating clinician rather than selecting a treatment because it appears in a package.
So get a contact route and ask how the clinic reviews your progress after you leave Thailand. If you can't attend included visits, ask what arrangement the clinic offers instead.
Our written hair transplant quote guide covers the longer inclusion list. For this count, the key document is a price tied to the agreed 3,000-graft plan, with the rules for any change written beside it.
Questions to take to your consultation
A prospective Bangkok patient said the advice on their count ranged from 2,000 to 4,000 grafts in an August 2025 r/HairTransplants post. Ask each surgeon to explain the proposed work before choosing between different counts.
Another person on Hair Restoration Network questioned whether 3,000 to 4,000 grafts was justified for their pattern. They were concerned about using donor hair on a first procedure and leaving too little for later sessions.
Take these questions to the surgeon:
1. Which areas would receive the proposed 3,000 grafts, and how many would go to each? 2. What hairline and density are you proposing, and how does my existing hair affect that plan? 3. Why do you recommend this count for the areas we have agreed to treat? 4. What donor hair would remain available if I needed another procedure? 5. Does my plan suit one session, and what could make you change it?
So ask for those answers alongside the drawing and price. They let you compare what each surgeon proposes without assuming that the larger count is the better plan.
Sources and method
We calculate procedure totals from the linked Thai clinics' own published rates, keeping their starting-price and case conditions attached. Patient payments and quotes appear separately with the post dates; neither is a guaranteed price for another patient.

3,000 grafts in Thailand: common questions
How many hairs is 3,000 grafts?
The ISHRS describes follicular units containing one to four hairs. Multiplying gives 3,000 to 12,000 hairs, but your actual total depends on the mix of graft sizes. Ask the clinic to distinguish the graft count from the hair count in its records.
Is 3,000 grafts enough for my hairline and crown?
A count alone can't answer that. Bangkok Hair Clinic says requirements depend on the region, treated area size and available grafts. Ask for an allocation showing how many grafts would go to the front and how many to the crown, with the proposed density explained.
Can 3,000 grafts be done in one day?
It may be possible. Bangkok Hair Clinic describes one-day FUE, while the AAD says larger procedures can require time the following day. Get your clinic's session plan for the proposed count and technique before arranging travel.
Why have I been quoted 2,000 to 4,000 grafts?
One prospective Bangkok patient reported that range on r/HairTransplants. The count alone doesn't explain the difference. Ask each clinic for the areas it plans to treat, the allocation and proposed hairline, then ask the surgeon why that count fits the plan.
Should I worry if my hair looks thin at six months?
Ask your treating surgeon to assess your progress rather than diagnose it from another patient's photos. The AAD says results commonly appear between six and nine months and can take twelve months for some patients. That timing doesn't establish why your hair looks thin or predict your eventual density.
Will 3,000 grafts leave enough donor hair for another procedure?
That needs an assessment of your donor area and future treatment plan. Ask the surgeon what donor hair would remain after the proposed procedure and how that affects possible later work.
