Hair Transplant Cost UK vs Thailand: Prices and Travel
HairRoss chose to stay in the UK partly because future checkups would be easier, they wrote on 21 June 2024. That matters when comparing a local hair transplant clinic with a hair transplant in Thailand. This guide compares hair transplants in the UK and Thailand.
UK published prices include My Hair UK at £2,499 for up to 500 grafts and Crown Clinic at £5,000 to £15,000 for FUT or FUE. These cover different procedures and graft counts, so they aren't a UK average.
In Bangkok, HE Clinic publishes ฿119,000, about £2,671, for 2,000 standard shaven implanter-pen grafts. Flights, accommodation and your follow-up arrangements belong beside that figure before you compare it with a UK quote.
HairRoss's account on Hair Restoration Network describes choosing Westminster Medical Group with future in-person visits in mind. We would ask both clinics to put those visits on the calendar before paying a deposit.
Who Does the Work, and What to Ask
Ask for the surgeon's name and the planned graft count. Ask who makes the extraction incisions and the recipient-site incisions, then who places the grafts.
Those are separate questions. A surgeon's name on a website doesn't tell you which steps that person will perform during your appointment.
Checking a UK clinic and surgeon
For England, the NHS says independent clinics and hospitals offering cosmetic surgery must be registered with the Care Quality Commission, or CQC. It also says doctors must be registered with the General Medical Council, or GMC, and hold a license to practice.
Check the clinic's name and treatment location against the CQC. Its published information lets you check ratings and read detailed reports, rather than relying on the clinic's registration claim alone.
In Wales, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales says independent healthcare businesses must register with it.
Check the named doctor's license status through the GMC. Keep that separate from the clinic check: CQC registration applies to England, so it isn't the clinic-registration test for Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
What the Thailand research can and cannot show
The Medical Council of Thailand's Act restricts medical practice to medical practitioners under the Act, with listed exceptions. Its definition of the medical profession includes surgical procedures, and the Council has a doctor-name search.
The Act doesn't establish who holds the extraction punch or places each graft at a particular clinic. Get those answers from the clinic against the procedure you're booking.
The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, ABHRS, describes extraction and graft-placement incisions as non-delegable in its standards for certified physicians. That is a professional standard, separate from Thai law.
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, ISHRS, says grafts are placed “most often by the trained staff.” Ask which steps the doctor does and which the team does, without treating staff placement alone as evidence of a problem.
Does the NHS pay for a hair transplant?
The NHS says: “It's not available on the NHS because it's cosmetic surgery.” Budget for a private procedure whichever country you choose.
For self-funded treatment abroad, the NHS says to allow for “the possibility of extending your stay if necessary and the cost of possible return trips.” Ask the clinic what happens if you need another in-person appointment after you've returned home.
Cost Comparison: What Clinics Publish and What Patients Report
UK clinic-published prices
We compare what clinics publish and haven't visited them. The UK procedure figures below, including those in the opening, were read 18 October 2026.
A from-price, a graft band and a base fee plus a graft charge describe different bills. An FUE hair transplant price can use any of those formats. Compare the amount for your planned graft count, then check what happens if that count changes.
| Clinic and location | Published procedure price | Consultation and inclusions stated on the linked pages |
|---|---|---|
| My Hair UK, nationwide | Up to 500 grafts, £2,499, through up to 3,500 grafts, £4,899 | Its cost guide lists consultation, surgeon-led procedure, medication, aftercare kit and in-person follow-up. PRP isn't stated. |
| Farjo, Manchester | “£3,000 + £3 per graft”; £3,000 minimum for up to 300 grafts | Consultation normally £120, paid in advance. PRP, medication and aftercare aren't stated in the price line. |
| Farjo, London | “£3,750 + £3 per graft”; £3,750 minimum for up to 300 grafts | Consultation normally £120, paid in advance. PRP, medication and aftercare aren't stated in the price line. |
| KSL, Birmingham | “£2,500 - £6,995” | Free consultations. 12-month aftercare plan stated. PRP and medication are mentioned as treatments, not as included in the price. |
| FUE Clinics, location not specified on this page | “from £1,500” to “£6,750” | Non-shaven FUE costs the same as standard FUE. Free consultation. PRP, medication and aftercare aren't stated. |
| Crown Clinic, location not specified in the price entry | FUT or FUE “from £5,000 - £15,000” | Consultation from £100. PRP, medication and aftercare aren't stated in the fee entry. |
| Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinics, London | FUE from £3,000; FUT and DHI from £4,000; “£5,500 - £6,000” for 2,000 grafts (FUE or FUT) | Free initial consultation, surgeon fees, theater, pre-surgery care, aftercare kit, needed medication and follow-up sessions. Program continues 12 months. PRP isn't stated. |
| Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinics, Leeds | “£3,000 to £7,000” | Free online consultation and 12 months of follow-up stated. PRP and medication aren't stated. |
| Capital Hair Restoration, London (Harley Street) address shown | FUE from £3,995; FUT from £4,495 | Free consultation and “Inclusive Aftercare.” PRP is separate, from £400. Medication separate, from £50 a month. |
These are seven clinic brands across nine location entries. Farjo is a Manchester hair transplant clinic with a separately published London price, while Harley Street's Leeds page gives less detail about inclusions than its main price page.
A missing inclusion doesn't tell you whether the clinic charges extra for it. So ask for the answer in the written quote, including whether PRP treatment is included or optional.
Fortes offers a personalized quote without an own-clinic procedure price on that page. The HHC Clinics page also provides no usable own-clinic procedure figure.
The Private Clinic has a “Would you pay £7,000” press headline. It supplies neither a clinic quote nor the graft count and inclusions needed to compare one.
For a wider destination comparison, see published hair transplant costs by country. For a UK decision, the named clinic's graft band and inclusions are more useful than a national headline price.
Thailand canonical figures beside the UK figures
Patients report paying ฿36-123 per graft across five Bangkok clinics, covering 31 reports and quotes from 2023 to 2026. Most reports at Absolute, Bangkok Hair Clinic and Hairsmith fall at ฿65-90 per graft.
Those are patient reports, rather than current offers. The Thailand clinic cost guide separates that history from prices clinics publish themselves.
HE Clinic publishes ฿119,000 for 2,000 standard shaven implanter-pen grafts, “with no other costs or charges,” read 17 October 2026. That converts to £2,671.
DHI Thailand publishes about ฿100,000-200,000 for 2,000-4,000 grafts, labeled as its 2025 data and read 18 October 2026. That converts to about £2,244 to £4,488.
Pound equivalents are converted at the European Central Bank reference rates of 16 October 2026, using THB 44.5601 per GBP and rounding to whole pounds. They aren't prices a clinic has agreed to charge in pounds.
The HE package fixes a graft count for comparison. DHI Thailand's range covers different graft counts. So don't compare its lower endpoint with a UK quote for the top of that band.
What each price includes
My Hair UK lists medication, an aftercare kit and in-person follow-up. Harley Street's main price page also lists medication and follow-up sessions, while Capital lists aftercare and prices PRP separately.
Ask what each aftercare visit involves and where it happens. “Aftercare included” doesn't answer whether you need to travel back for a wash or whether a question will be handled by the operating doctor.
A consultation fee is also different from a deposit. Farjo asks for its consultation fee in advance, while Crown publishes a consultation price from £100 and a minimum procedure deposit of £1,000.
Crown requires full payment no later than a week before the procedure. My Hair UK states a 50% booking fee, with the balance due on surgery day.
For Bangkok, HairTran states “Free follow-up appointments for 12 months” and its homepage says patients can send photos for doctors to review. These offers were read 18 October 2026.
HairTran says its implanter pen carries no extra charge. Hairsmith says it includes 12 months of hair-growth medication.
Keep those promises attached to the clinic making them. HE's package wording doesn't establish that it includes HairTran's follow-up or Hairsmith's medication supply, and none of those statements supplies a hotel or airport-transfer allowance.
UK finance offers published by clinics
The following clinic finance wording was read 18 October 2026. Compare the total repayment and deposit against the cash quote, along with whether you qualify for the advertised terms.
| Clinic | Published wording | Terms to distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| FUE Clinics | “12 months 0% finance is available.” | Confirm the deposit and amount financed against your quote. |
| KSL | “option to split your payments over a year.” | Its separate payments page gives payments from £130 per month and 12.9% annual percentage rate over 60 months. These aren't the same repayment period. |
| Royal Liver Building | “0% finance available” | Subject to status and affordability. |
| Harley Street | “There is also finance available.” | The page gives no rate or term. |
A monthly amount doesn't tell you the procedure's cash price. KSL's interest-bearing example also shouldn't be read as a 0% offer simply because another clinic advertises one.
A London to Bangkok worked trip cost
Harley Street publishes £5,500 to £6,000 for 2,000 grafts (FUE or FUT). HE publishes ฿119,000 for its standard shaven implanter-pen package at the same graft count.
Matching the graft count lets you compare the bills. So ask both clinics to confirm the procedure and shave requirement, along with who does the work and handles follow-up.
| Bangkok component | Amount | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| HE procedure, 2,000 grafts | ฿119,000, about £2,671 | Clinic-published standard shaven implanter-pen package |
| London Heathrow to Bangkok return airfare | From £831 | Thai Airways, economy example for December 7 to 14, 2026 |
| Procedure plus return airfare | £3,502 | £2,671 + £831 = £3,502 |
| Accommodation | Add the price for your confirmed nights | No hotel amount is included above |
| Local transport, meals and insurance | Add your own costs | No amounts are included above |
The Thai Airways fare example was read 18 October 2026. It is an advertised example for those dates, rather than a fare held for your booking.
£3,502 is the procedure-plus-flight subtotal, before accommodation and other trip costs.
Our budgeting assumption is a 7 to 10-day stay. Your clinic might ask for a longer stay.
Confirm your schedule before booking, since more nights add to the bill.
The Trip Schedule Test: What Happens Before You Fly Home
Put both clinics' appointment plans beside your available leave. Include travel days and the visits you would need to make after returning to work.
HairTran recommends at least two weeks for international patients; its homepage says a minimum of three days if time is limited, and its FUE page says at least 3 to 5 days. Ask for a schedule for your procedure; those statements don't set the stay for HE's package above.
EasyRoader, who traveled to Bangkok from Australia, wrote on 23 March 2024: “I stayed on for another 4 days and went back every day for washing and laser treatment.” Their account shows why you need the appointment plan before choosing the number of hotel nights.
| UK appointment plan | Bangkok trip plan |
|---|---|
| When is the consultation or final assessment, and is it in person? | When is the final assessment relative to arrival and surgery? |
| Which named surgeon will operate, and which steps will staff do? | Which named surgeon will operate, and which steps will staff do? |
| What check happens before I travel home from the clinic? | What check happens before my departure from Bangkok? |
| Is the first wash included, and when do I return for it? | Is the first wash included, and how does it affect my hotel nights? |
| Which follow-up appointments will be in person? | Who reviews questions or photos after I return to the UK? |
My Hair UK publishes in-person follow-up, and Harley Street includes follow-up sessions. HairTran describes photo review by doctors, so ask how that works alongside its in-person visits.
Leave enough room in your budget for the schedule the clinic gives you. An unanswered question about the last check matters before you commit to a return ticket.
What UK Patients Say About UK Quotes and Going Abroad
UK clinic quotes and local treatment
HairRoss wrote on 21 June 2024 about Westminster Medical Group in London: “the added benefit of making future in-person checkups and such much more accessible.” Their Hair Restoration Network account gives a practical reason to value a local clinic alongside its price.
DhtBlocker77 wrote about a Manchester Farjo consultation on 5 May 2022: “I was left with a price and that was £6 per graft.” The same post described around £9,600 for 2,000 grafts, so ask Farjo for the current itemized quote rather than calculating from that older account.
Mike888888 wrote on 10 March 2024 about Refine Surgical in Nottinghamshire: “I paid a fixed price for the day i.e. unlimited grafts for £2,500.” Their seven-month account also raised concerns about the procedure.
That fee describes what Mike888888 reported paying. So a fixed day price still needs a clinical graft plan and a written explanation of what happens if the plan changes.
On 22 September 2018, john1972 wrote: “Dr Reddy did most of the work, extractions and Incisions and some of the placement.” Use that older account to frame the staffing question, then get the answer for your own appointment.
Going abroad from the UK
For a UK traveler considering Bangkok, these Absolute Hair Clinic accounts raise practical questions about washes and later follow-up.
Wingtsun wrote on 26 October 2023 that “the dr. offered me to come in and get a wash and Lllt for 2 more days.” So ask whether additional visits are included in your own quote, using the account as a prompt for that conversation.
Ramons wrote on 3 August 2023: “My 12 month results weren't what I or Dr Laorwong were expecting.” Their 12-month update makes another question concrete: how would the clinic assess a concern once you're back in the UK?
Thailand vs UK at a Glance
| Decision | UK clinic | Bangkok clinic |
|---|---|---|
| Procedure price | Compare the clinic's graft band, from-price or base fee plus graft charge. | Separate historical patient reports from a current named-clinic quote. |
| Travel | Price your journey to the treatment location and any repeat visits. | Add flights and the local journey. |
| Stay | Ask whether checks require another visit or an overnight stay. | We use 7 to 10 days as a budgeting assumption, subject to the clinic's plan. |
| Inclusions | Medication, PRP and follow-up differ between the listed offers. | HE, HairTran and Hairsmith publish different package or aftercare statements. |
| Financing | Some clinics advertise 0%; others publish interest-bearing monthly plans. | Ask the clinic for its deposit and payment terms in writing. |
| Registration checks | Check the relevant clinic regulator and the named doctor's GMC license. | Check the doctor's Medical Council entry and ask about each person's role. |
| Follow-up | Assess how practical repeat in-person appointments would be. | Agree on remote review and the circumstances requiring an in-person visit. |
| Entry arrangements | No Thailand entry arrangements for treatment at home. | UK passports appear on the ministry's tourism-exemption list; treatment requires checking the relevant entry category. |
The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs list includes the United Kingdom among 60 countries and territories eligible for a 30-day tourism exemption. The ministry says the exemptions “apply to travel for tourism purposes only” and directs other purposes to the relevant visa category.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha states a cash requirement equivalent to ฿20,000 per person or ฿40,000 per family under the tourist exemption. It says an extension is at the immigration officer's discretion; this isn't a medical-visa duration or a guaranteed extension.
Who Each Option Suits
A UK clinic may suit you if
A UK clinic may fit better if you have limited leave or want repeat visits within reach of home. Price the actual journey, since a London clinic isn't local to everyone in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
For a small or uncertain graft plan, get the UK band price before assuming the flight will pay for itself. My Hair UK's published bands illustrate why a lower graft count needs its own comparison.
A usable clinic finance offer may also affect the choice. So check the deposit and full repayment before choosing on the monthly amount alone.
If you want non-shaven treatment, ask for that version in your quote. FUE Clinics says it charges the same for non-shaven and standard FUE, while HE's price used here is for standard shaven treatment.
Bangkok may suit you if
Bangkok may fit if you can take the planned time away and the full bill fits your budget. The HE example gives you a procedure price to compare at 2,000 grafts, but hotel and other travel costs still need adding.
Get a quote for the technique and graft count the clinician recommends. A package for standard shaven work won't answer the cost of a different shave requirement or a different graft count.
Agree on how the clinic will handle follow-up after you return. If you want every concern assessed in person, include the possibility of another journey in the decision before paying.

Frequently asked questions
Who does the extraction, incision creation and placement?
Ask the clinic to name the person responsible for each step. The ISHRS describes graft placement as most often done by trained staff, while ABHRS distinguishes the creation of incisions in its physician standards. Get the staffing answer for your appointment, even if a patient describes what happened during theirs.
Should the consultation be in person or by video?
Ask who gives the graft estimate and when the clinician confirms it. If an initial assessment happens by video, get the timing of any final in-person assessment before arranging flights or leave. The price and schedule should state what happens if that assessment changes the plan.
Which visits should the quote include?
Ask which washes and checkups the price includes. Get the medication and later follow-up arrangements in writing. My Hair UK lists in-person follow-up, while Harley Street lists follow-up sessions. Ask the Bangkok clinic which visits must happen before departure and which can happen remotely.
How many hotel nights should I book?
We use a 7 to 10-day stay for budgeting, not as medical advice. Ask your clinic to confirm arrival, assessment, procedure and final check dates before booking. HairTran's published checkup guidance applies to its patients and doesn't set another clinic's schedule.
How will the clinic help after I return to the UK?
Agree on who reviews your questions, what you can send remotely and when the clinic might need to see you in person. HairTran says patients can send photos for doctors to review. Ask your chosen clinic to put its own arrangement in writing, including who pays if another trip is needed.
What happens to the price if my graft count changes?
Ask before paying the deposit. The UK examples include graft bands, a base fee plus a graft charge and procedure ranges, while HE's example is tied to a stated graft count. Your quote should explain how a revised count affects the price and what happens if fewer grafts are used.
