Hair Transplant Cost Canada vs Thailand: Published Clinic Prices and a Bangkok Trip

Time off work concerned JMarshall. On 15 December 2024, the poster wrote, "I didn't feel as comfortable taking the time off work." That belongs beside the price when comparing a Canadian clinic with a hair transplant in Thailand.

Canadian examples: Sure Hair publishes C$4.00 per graft, with its session averages quoted plus 13% HST; Face MD publishes C$7,500 before taxes for up to 2,500 grafts. Bangkok's three-clinic band, from patient reports and Hairsmith's published rate, works out to ฿162,500-225,000 for 2,500 grafts, or C$6,886 to C$9,535 before travel.

JMarshall described the work constraint in a Hair Restoration Network account about Dr Rahal. A price comparison needs room for the appointment schedule and the follow-up you can attend.

The Short Answer on Canadian Hair Transplant Cost

Canadian clinics publish several kinds of price: a rate per graft, a procedure band, or a starting price tied to a graft limit. So keep those formats intact when you ask for quotes.

Sure Hair's Toronto page gives an average session of C$7,000 to C$9,000 plus 13% HST. At C$4.00 a graft, its stated session size of 2,500 to 3,000 grafts comes to C$10,000 to C$12,000, above that session average, so ask for a written quote. Face MD's C$7,500 offer covers one FUE procedure up to 2,500 grafts, with follow-ups and PRP during the procedure included.

FUE means follicular unit excision, a hair transplant surgery method that removes individual follicular units. PRP means platelet-rich plasma; when a clinic lists it, ask whether that means treatment during the procedure or later appointments too.

We treat a bare "$" as Canadian dollars only where the price page also gives a CAD label or Canadian tax wording. Sure Hair's Ontario HST and art&fact's Calgary GST provide that context; the table identifies an exception whose currency still needs confirmation.

The price format varies. The clinic's graft limit matters as much as its headline price. "Up to 2,500" doesn't say what a larger procedure costs, and a starting price doesn't settle your bill.

Who Does the Work, and What to Check Before You Compare Prices

Ask for the physician's name and a breakdown of the work. "Doctor involved" leaves unanswered who makes the incisions, who extracts the grafts, and who places them.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, ISHRS, says FUE graft harvesting should be "physician-driven and performed." It describes placement as "most often by the trained staff."

Ask which steps the doctor will do and which staff will do.

Put that answer beside the written graft estimate and technique. If keeping your hair unshaven matters, ask whether the quoted procedure allows it and whether the price changes.

Also ask who you can contact after returning home and which follow-up appointments the fee includes. A clinic's answer should name the person handling your concerns and explain whether you need to return in person.

For a Canadian doctor, use the relevant provincial register checks below. For a Thai doctor, the Thai Medical Council register accepts first name and surname in Thai or English.

Cost Comparison: What Canadian and Thai Clinics Publish

Canadian Clinic Prices by City

We compare what clinics publish and haven't visited these clinics. Canadian clinic prices quoted here and in the table were read 18 October 2026; individual page dates appear where available.

The table has eight clinic names across nine location rows. It preserves the clinics' dollar signs and price formats, with currency and tax explained separately.

Ask for the tax-inclusive total where the clinic hasn't stated it.

Visage Cosmetic Clinic says its Winnipeg FUE grafts are approximately $6 to $10 per graft and FUT $4 to $6, without stating the currency, so the table leaves it out.

Thailand Figures and CAD Conversions

Patients report paying ฿36-123 per graft across five Bangkok clinics (31 reports and quotes, 2023 to 2026). Most reports at Absolute, Bangkok Hair Clinic and Hairsmith fall at ฿65-90 per graft.

At 2,500 grafts, that narrower band gives ฿162,500-225,000, or C$6,886 to C$9,535. Across the full reported range, the arithmetic is ฿90,000-307,500, or C$3,814 to C$13,031.

These are calculations from reported rates. Ask the clinic to quote your graft count and technique before using one as your procedure budget.

The amounts below are converted at the European Central Bank reference rates of 16 October 2026. Each result is rounded to the nearest Canadian dollar.

BasisConversion
Three-clinic subset, 2,500-graft lower endpoint฿162,500 / 23.5971 = C$6,886
Three-clinic subset, 2,500-graft upper endpoint฿225,000 / 23.5971 = C$9,535
Full range, 2,500-graft lower endpoint฿90,000 / 23.5971 = C$3,814
Full range, 2,500-graft upper endpoint฿307,500 / 23.5971 = C$13,031

Use the baht rate to calculate your total before converting. Multiplying a rounded Canadian-dollar rate by thousands of grafts would change the result.

Our Thailand cost guide breaks down the Thai figures. The cost-by-country comparison puts other destinations beside them.

What Each Published Price Includes

Face MD includes follow-ups and PRP during the procedure. Its consultation charge, taxes and later PRP treatments sit outside the published procedure price.

DrHairs lists an aftercare kit and 12 months of checkups. Edmonton Men's Health lists consultation and follow-up for its typical full session but describes PRP as optional, so ask whether it appears as a separate charge on your quote.

For the other Canadian rows, a published price doesn't come with a complete list of included services. So ask the clinic to itemize medication and follow-up before comparing the total with a package elsewhere.

The Bangkok patient-reported range doesn't establish package inclusions or tax treatment. Accommodation and transfers also need their own written answers.

Get the same graft count and technique priced in writing.

Then compare the cost of the appointments you'll attend. A fee that includes follow-ups still leaves the question of where those appointments happen.

A Vancouver to Bangkok Trip Cost, With Assumptions Shown

For a 2,500-graft example, we use the Bangkok three-clinic band of C$6,886 to C$9,535. The Canadian reference is Face MD's published C$7,500 before taxes for one FUE procedure up to 2,500 grafts.

Air Canada displayed a return fare of C$2,076 from Vancouver for 16 to 23 November 2026, read 18 October 2026. Its page says fares were collected within 48 hours and may no longer be available.

DepartureReturn-fare sourceProcedure plus airfare arithmeticPartial subtotal
VancouverAir Canada: C$2,076C$2,076 + C$6,886 = C$8,962; C$2,076 + C$9,535 = C$11,611C$8,962 - C$11,611

The subtotal excludes accommodation, food, local transport, insurance, taxes and other expenses. The planning assumption is a 7 to 10 day Bangkok stay, but no allowance for those stay costs is included here.

The fare dates aren't a proposed medical itinerary. They also don't establish how many days you'll have in Bangkok once the outbound and return journeys are accounted for.

Even before those extras, the Bangkok subtotal exceeds Face MD's published procedure price. So get a written Canadian quote before assuming the flight will buy a saving.

Face MD's tax and consultation exclusions still need adding. Its offer and the Bangkok rate reports also don't establish identical staffing or services, even when the graft count matches.

For routing, Qatar Airways says Toronto passengers "stop in Doha, Qatar, along the way."

Air Canada names its Vancouver-Bangkok route in its French-language release of 10 September 2025.

Plan the Bangkok Trip Around the First Check, Not Just the Surgery Date

EasyRoader wrote on 23 March 2024: "I stayed on for another 4 days and went back every day for washing and laser treatment." The Hair Restoration Network account describes that poster's visit to Absolute Hair Clinic.

The poster also advised, "Definitely stay quite close to the clinic or get a Grab cab back to your accommodation." Repeated clinic visits belong in the travel budget and calendar.

We use 7 to 10 days as a planning assumption, not a recovery recommendation. Ask your clinic to put its appointment dates and travel advice against the itinerary before committing to the trip.

PhaseWhat to put in your calendarBasis
Outbound travelDeparture, connection and Bangkok arrival; compare these with the appointment datePlanning assumption; Qatar publishes a Toronto route through Doha
Procedure appointmentThe confirmed procedure date, plus any assessment the clinic requires beforehandPlanning assumption; obtain the clinic's appointment details
First clinic checkThe clinic's written check or washing appointment and how you'll get therePlanning assumption; EasyRoader's daily visits describe one patient's experience
Return travelThe booked route and departure date after discussing travel with the treating clinicPlanning assumption; the fare snapshot sets no medical travel timetable
Follow-up at homeNamed contact, remote appointments and any in-person care you arrange locallyPlanning assumption; confirm who handles each appointment

Remote consultation can start with material the clinic asks you to send. In a 20 April 2025 Hair Restoration Network account, Falling wrote, "I sent her pictures and a brief cover letter."

Use the clinic's reply to establish what can be settled remotely and what needs an appointment. So count the journey and the confirmed visits alongside the procedure when planning time off work.

Coverage, Regulation and Travel Information

What Canadian Public Coverage Pages Say

The Government of Canada says services "not considered medically necessary are not covered by a public health insurance plan." It lists "cosmetic procedures" among uninsured services.

That federal explanation doesn't name hair transplantation. Ask your provincial plan about your circumstances rather than treating it as an OHIP decision or a rule covering every hair transplant.

How to Check a Canadian Clinic or Physician

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, CPSO, says, "The College regulates Ontario physicians." Use its public Physician Register to check the named doctor on your quote.

For premises, CPSO says it "conducts quality assessments of all Out-of-Hospital Premises in Ontario." Check whether the premises you're considering falls under its Out-of-Hospital Premises Inspection Program; this doesn't mean every hair clinic does.

The Collège des médecins du Québec, CMQ, says its directory includes "the contact information of all active physicians and residents." The Quebec directory also includes permit type and disciplinary files, giving you more to check than a clinic biography.

For Thailand, search the Thai Medical Council register using the doctor's first name and surname. Ask the clinic for both names if its marketing uses a short name.

The Medical Council of Thailand Act defines the medical profession to "include any act of surgical procedure." Its medical-practice restriction has listed exceptions, so use the register alongside written questions about who does each step.

Government of Canada Advice for Thailand and Medical Travel

The Government of Canada advises travelers to Thailand to "Exercise a high degree of caution," with regional advisories for the Cambodian border area and the far south. It cites ongoing political tensions and sporadic demonstrations in Bangkok and elsewhere.

The same advisory says, "Make sure you get travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and hospital stays." Ask the insurer how the policy treats your planned procedure and any related care.

On medical care outside Canada, the government warns, "While most procedures go as planned, there can be serious complications." Agree on the follow-up contact and arrangements before traveling.

Canada appears on the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 60-country list for the 30-day tourism exemption, effective 15 September 2026. The ministry says the exemptions "apply to travel for tourism purposes only."

This is tourism entry information. For another travel purpose, the ministry says to refer to the relevant visa category.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha says an exempt stay "can be extended at the discretion of the immigration officer." Don't plan around a guaranteed extension.

Accounts From Canadian Clinics and Bangkok Trips

The accounts below concern Canadian clinics and Bangkok trips. The posters' names and dates let you follow their own descriptions of payment, staffing and follow-up.

Canadian Clinic Accounts

On 3 October 2020, rob7331 described a 2,212-graft procedure at a Toronto clinic on Hair Restoration Network. The poster wrote, "Price - $10,000 CAD (all taxes in)."

The same account listed "Followup service: scheduled visits after 9 days, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year." That gives you a concrete schedule to ask a clinic about when it says follow-up is included.

Among the cons rob7331 listed was "Surgery performed by techs, not doctor (this doesn't bother me)." In a Vancouver account dated 27 March 2020, krusher7 wrote of Dr Jerry Wong on Hair Restoration Network, "he's gotta have something like 6-8 techs working with him to extract and assist with placing the grafts. He does every single incision on his own."

Those descriptions make the staffing question useful in Canada too. Ask your clinic to separate incisions, extraction and placement in its reply.

On 3 May 2025, darth hair wrote, "The quote I received was $6.50 CAD per graft at the Ottawa clinic," in the Dr Rahal thread.

Thailand Trip Accounts

Shaba explained the choice of HairTran on 7 May 2025: "Wanted to go somewhere that had doctor involvement without breaking the bank." The Hair Restoration Network account puts staffing and budget in the same decision.

On 8 December 2023, romeo_gent wrote about Absolute Hair Clinic: "The package included PRP, post-op care, and extended medication supply." The Hair Restoration Network poster didn't state a cost in that post.

Ask for those inclusions in your own quote, including the medication supply and appointment details. EasyRoader's repeated clinic visits also show why the hotel location can matter to the daily plan.

Who Each Option Suits

Budget. Start with an itemized Canadian quote. In the 2,500-graft example above, Face MD's procedure price is below the Bangkok procedure-plus-flight subtotal from Vancouver, though taxes and exclusions still need comparing.

Graft count. A Canadian capped offer may suit the count you're quoted. If you need more than its cap, get the larger procedure priced before comparing it with a Bangkok per-graft figure.

Technique. If you want a particular technique or an unshaven procedure, compare clinics that will quote that work. The broad price bands don't answer whether your preferred approach is offered at that rate.

Time away. A nearby Canadian clinic may suit a reader who can't accommodate the Bangkok journey and planned stay. A Bangkok option needs room for the clinic's appointments as well as travel; use the 7 to 10 day assumption only to start planning.

Follow-up. A locally accessible clinic may suit someone who wants to attend later checks in person. Bangkok may suit someone who has chosen a clinic there and can arrange its early visits plus a clear follow-up plan from Canada.

Our best-country comparison covers the wider choice. For this decision, put your two written quotes beside the dates you can attend.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find independent reviews of a Canadian hair clinic?

Look for dated accounts naming the doctor and describing appointments, payment, staff roles and results. On 6 November 2025, EricMontross asked for "authentic reviews for Padra Clinic" on Hair Restoration Network; the question itself isn't a review of treatment.

Will the doctor make the incisions and place every graft?

Ask the clinic to separate the steps. ISHRS describes harvesting as "physician-driven and performed" and placement as "most often by the trained staff," so staff placing grafts doesn't answer who makes the incisions.

Does the price include tax, medication and follow-up?

The inclusions vary by clinic. Face MD lists follow-ups and PRP during the procedure but excludes taxes and its in-person surgical consultation; DrHairs lists an aftercare kit and checkups, so ask each clinic for the full itemized quote.

How much time should I take off for a Bangkok trip?

Start with the 7 to 10 day stay planning assumption, then ask your clinic for its required appointments and add the actual journey. EasyRoader's four extra days with daily visits were one patient's schedule; they don't set the time you should take off.

Can I arrange follow-up after returning to Canada?

Ask the Bangkok clinic which follow-ups it offers remotely and who handles concerns once you're home. If you want in-person checks in Canada, arrange them before booking and confirm their cost; don't assume a procedure package includes local care after an international trip.
