Hair Transplant Guarantees in Thailand: What Clinics Offer and What to Get in Writing

Part of our guide to hair transplants in Thailand. In September 2025 a patient on r/HairTransplants wrote that the clinic's warranty covered no growth after 18 months. The clinic's answer to the photos they sent was "it is your initial hair that fell." (u/Wonderful-Bat-5897, 19 Sep 2025)

The post doesn't name the clinic or the country. It shows what a guarantee is worth when the terms are vague: the clinic judged the photos and said the patient could come back for another transplant.

Of 14 Thai clinic websites we read, four promise a free second procedure if the hair doesn't grow. Only one of the four prints a condition you have to meet.

What the clinic's website saysClinics

The rest of this page covers what each wording says, what's missing from it, and what to get in writing before you pay a deposit.

What a Hair Transplant Guarantee Means

An ISHRS column quotes the dictionary meaning of a guarantee: "a formal assurance (typically in writing) that certain conditions will be fulfilled, especially that a product will be repaired or replaced if not of a specified quality." (ISHRS Hair Transplant Forum, Nov/Dec 2019)

Where the Thai pages quoted below name a remedy, it is a free second procedure, touch-up or additional care, not money back. HairTran calls its offer a "results guarantee", a "growth guarantee" and, in its FAQ, a "warranty period".

The hard part is measurement. The column's author, Gregory Williams of London, asks "how can a hair growth guarantee even be measured?" and points to the lack of "widely accepted objective patient reported outcome measures" for transplanted hair.

What the Professional Societies Say

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery lists "Guaranteed results" as marketing language that "may mislead the public," and says its members "are required to agree to and abide by" that position. (ISHRS) The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery puts the same words under "Inappropriate, Misleading, Inaccurate Terminology" in its code of ethics. A 2021 practice guideline in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery lists the phrase too.

The ISHRS page lists the wording only. It says nothing about a conditional touch-up policy, so it doesn't settle whether a written, limited offer counts.

In the UK, the Royal College of Surgeons of England's cosmetic surgery standards quote the General Medical Council: "You must not falsely claim or imply that certain results are guaranteed from an intervention." (Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2016) That's UK guidance, not a Thai rule.

What Thai Law Says About Advertising a Guarantee

We didn't find a Thai rule written for hair transplant guarantees. The closest rule we read is about advertising. According to the law firm Tilleke & Gibbins, section 38 of the Medical Facility Act prohibits advertisements containing "false, exaggerated, deceptive, or misleading statements" about things like "the medical services offered" and "the competence or capabilities of healthcare personnel." (Tilleke & Gibbins, 9 Sep 2026)

The penalty is "imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to THB 20,000, or both." The same article reports a 5 August 2026 judgment on acne scar treatment advertising, where the court found the clinic "liable for the false representations."

That summary doesn't mention hair transplants or guarantees, and it doesn't say a guarantee is illegal. The article does say the acne case "demonstrates the risk associated with claims that promise specific results." It's a law firm's reading, not the regulator's text.

We're not lawyers and this isn't legal advice. Credentials and safety are covered in our safety and accreditation guide.

What Thai Clinics Publish About Their Guarantee

We compared what 14 Thai clinic websites say about guarantees. We haven't visited these clinics or had a transplant at any of them. The wording below was read on 9 October 2026, and pages change.

HairTran Clinic: Three Wordings of One Guarantee

HairTran Clinic states its one-year guarantee on three pages, and the wording changes each time.

PageRemedyWhat triggers itCondition
Home page FAQ"additional care at no extra cost""the outcome does not meet the treatment plan""you have attended all scheduled follow-up visits"
FUE service page"we'll re-transplant at no extra cost""your growth does not meet expectations"Not printed
Promotion page"an additional transplant free of charge""regrowth does not meet expectations"Not printed

The remedy is "additional care" on the home page and a new transplant on the other two. The bar is a "treatment plan" on one page and "expectations" on the others. Only the home page names a condition, and no page says who judges growth or how.

The home page also prints a follow-up schedule: 1 day, 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months. The last visit is a "final assessment with your doctor, comparing before-and-after photos." International patients can send photos through an online follow-up system. The pages we read don't say whether a photo review counts as attending a visit.

Under a case-study video, the same page says "Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed." Read together, the offer is a second procedure if growth falls short, not a promise that growth will be good. What a HairTran package includes is on our packages page.

Clinics That Offer a Free Touch-Up or Free Surgery

Hairsmith Clinic writes: "After one year, if there are areas where the hair hasn't grown well or hasn't grown at all, we will do a free touch-up without any extra charges." It adds that "Some clinics may claim to offer a guarantee but later charge for surgical rooms or doctor fees." The page prints no condition, no benchmark percentage and no one who judges growth.

DHT Clinic answers "What sort of guarantee or assurance can you give me?" with "There is no 100% guarantee in medical practice, approximately 90% of the transplanted grafts will grow after 3-6 months in good hands." It then offers surgery free of charge "if there is no growth," which it says "has never happened in our practice." That trigger is narrower than poor or patchy growth.

Max Hair Thailand says twice on its home page that it will replant free if results fall short: "if the hair transplant doesn't yield the expected results, we are happy to replant your hair free of charge," and, under after-sales service, "If your transplanted hair doesn't grow as expected, we are happy to replant it for free."

Its All Graft promotion page lists "Quality guarantee with free re-transplantation" beside a "12-month follow-up with the doctor," and its package page lists "Free Re-Transplant." None of these pages says how long the offer lasts, what you must do to qualify or what counts as results that fall short.

Clinics That Publish a Survival Figure, Not a Remedy

A survival figure is a statement about outcomes. It offers nothing if yours falls short. These figures are the clinics' own.

DHI Thailand shows "Maximum Viability Guaranteed" with a line reading "Grafts survival rate is above 90%, while industry's average is about 50-90%, as per independent studies." It names no study and offers no remedy if survival is lower.

Full Hair by DHT Clinic asks "Is there a guarantee for the results?" and answers with a rate: "The transplanted hair has a growth success rate of approximately 90%." It adds that "the density and satisfaction depend on the number of grafts and the area covered."

Big Promises With No Terms

Esthetic Hair Thailand lists "Lifetime warranty" as an inclusion, beside "Our commitment doesn't end at surgery" and "90-98% Graft Survival" with proper aftercare. Neither of its two pages prints terms.

Esthetic is a Phuket clinic, and our Bangkok vs Phuket comparison covers how the two cities differ.

PHD Clinic's Bangkok page says "We guarantee effective treatment results" and names no remedy, window or condition. Its Phuket page has no guarantee wording.

A promise with no remedy, no window and no condition can't be claimed. Ask what it means in practice and get the answer in writing.

Clinics With No Guarantee Wording

We found no guarantee, warranty or free touch-up wording on the pages we read for Bangkok Hair Clinic, CosmoPrime, Thailand Hair Transplant Center in Chiang Mai, Absolute Hair Clinic, Dr. Nutt's own site and Kamol. That says nothing about what those clinics do if you ask. It means the policy, if there is one, isn't printed there.

Absolute Hair Clinic's own blog uses the word as a warning. It says non-doctors "promise low prices + guaranteed results, yet can deliver terrible results!" If you're looking at Chiang Mai, our Chiang Mai guide covers the clinics there.

What a Written Guarantee Looks Like in Other Countries

Two clinics outside Thailand print their terms in full. They show what the Thai pages leave out.

TermBosley (United States)HDC Hair Clinic (Cyprus)
RemedyReplaces any non-growing graft free of chargeReplaces missing grafts for free when growth is under 85%
WindowAt least 12 months must have passed since the procedureValid from 12 months after surgery for one year; evaluation and free grafts within 12 to 24 months
Who measuresA Bosley physician assesses growth, decides how many grafts to replace and makes the final eligibility callMostly by eye; a micro camera gives an objective count
ConditionsAdequate donor hair; no hair transplant surgery by a non-Bosley physician since the procedure; aftercare instructions followed; all follow-up visits attendedAny loss 2 years after surgery isn't guaranteed

Sources: Bosley and HDC Hair Clinic. HDC also says patients from abroad can get "4-5 days of free accommodation if requested." Its 85% figure is one Cyprus clinic's term, not an industry norm and not a Thai standard.

AEK Hair Clinic in Turkey goes the other way. Its blog calls it "quite unethical that clinics offer this type of guarantee certificate because there's no law behind it," and says its own "responsibility" is "not a written agreement, it's my personal decision."

Its blog adds that it will "do another surgery for free" if surgery can fix a problem and "give the patients money back" if it can't. Our Thailand vs Turkey comparison covers the wider differences.

Set against Bosley and HDC, the coverage on the Thai pages is thin: one condition, a one-year window at HairTran, a touch-up "after one year" at Hairsmith, and nobody named to judge growth.

What a Guarantee Doesn't Cover

None of the Thai pages we read prints a list of exclusions, and HairTran's home page prints one condition. The limits on coverage below come from Bosley's written terms, a UK clinic and the ISHRS.

When a Claim Can Be Judged

A guarantee can only be tested once the hair has had time to grow. The American Academy of Dermatology says the transplanted hair falls out "between two and eight weeks after the surgery," and that "By the third month, the hair may look thinner than before you had the transplant." (AAD)

The AAD adds: "Most patients see results between six and nine months after surgery. For some patients, it takes 12 months." A one-year window lands at the edge of that range. If your hair is slow, ask whether the surgeon will assess you at twelve months or later.

How much of the hair should grow? A peer-reviewed series of 158 men at one hospital in China reported that "over 90% of the hair follicles survived" after FUE. (Wang and colleagues, BMC Surgery, 2024) The authors say the counts "may be subject to subjective errors during the counting process and should be viewed as an estimate," and 7 of the 158 needed a second procedure for insufficient density.

A review in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery is blunter: "few doctors reach 100% survival in common practice when the totality of the grafts is measured." (Parsley and Perez-Meza, 2010) Neither source is about a Thai clinic. If a clinic prints a percentage, ask what it counts, how, and when.

What Patients Report About Claiming a Guarantee

We found few patient reports about using a guarantee: one for a Thai clinic and one disputed claim with no clinic named.

A patient posting as defiance79 on the Hair Restoration Network forum wrote about a HairTran procedure (the thread title gives 28 September 2023). On 10 April 2024, at six months, the patient wrote that the clinic called it "great progress" and reassured them that "if the density does not increase over the next 6 months, they will touch it up for free." (Hair Restoration Network thread)

On 16 July 2024 the patient wrote of "looking forward to going back at no charge for the touch up." On 31 March 2025 the patient wrote "had my free touchup at the front last Thursday," and on 18 April 2025, in reply to a question about the touch-up, "Including the front and back it was 3231 grafts."

The touch-up came about 18 months after the date in the thread title, by our arithmetic. The posts don't say whether the one-year guarantee or a separate offer from the clinic applied, and HairTran's pages print a one-year window. This is one patient's account, not a sign of what others get.

The Reddit patient from the top of this page asked how the clinic could tell, from photos sent by WhatsApp, which hair had grown and which had fallen. The answer was that "the doctor has enough experience to differentiate it," which the patient called "totally absurd."

The patient added that "they are telling me i can come back for another hair transplant." The clinic and country aren't stated, and the account is unverified.

One reply, an opinion, says "Never go back to the same clinic that you have had issues with." (r/HairTransplants thread, 19 Sep 2025) More patient accounts are on our reviews page.

What to Get in Writing Before You Pay

This list is our reading of the gaps above. It isn't a legal template, and each line names where it comes from. Print it and take it to your consultation.

Our booking guide covers what Thai clinics publish about deposits and what to get in writing first. If a clinic has no free touch-up, our pricing breakdown works out what a paid one could cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do hair transplant clinics in Thailand give a guarantee?

Some do. Four of the 14 Thai clinic websites we read name a free second procedure if the hair doesn't grow: HairTran, Hairsmith, DHT Clinic and Max Hair Thailand. The rest claim a guarantee with no terms, print only a survival rate or show no guarantee wording, so ask for the current terms in writing.

Is a hair transplant guarantee legal in Thailand?

We didn't find a Thai rule written for hair transplant guarantees. Tilleke & Gibbins summarizes section 38 of the Medical Facility Act as prohibiting false, exaggerated, deceptive or misleading advertisements for medical facilities, and that summary doesn't mention guarantees. This isn't legal advice, so for an opinion ask a Thai lawyer.

What does a hair transplant guarantee usually cover?

On the Thai pages we read that name a remedy, a free second procedure, touch-up or additional care if growth falls short. No page we read says whether it covers flights or hotels.

How long does a hair transplant guarantee last?

Where a Thai page prints a window, it's about one year: HairTran's home page says "1-year results guarantee," and Hairsmith offers a touch-up "after one year." The other four clinics with a remedy or claim print no window on the pages we read. Bosley requires 12 months to have passed before a claim, and HDC Hair Clinic in Cyprus makes its guarantee valid from 12 to 24 months after surgery.

What can void a hair transplant guarantee?

On the one Thai page that prints a condition, HairTran's home page, the offer depends on attending all scheduled follow-up visits. No Thai page we read lists exclusions. Bosley's written terms also require that, since your Bosley procedure, no physician outside Bosley has done hair transplant surgery on you, and a UK clinic lists scalp conditions, ignored pre- and post-op guidelines, undisclosed medical history and native hair loss.

What can I do if a clinic won't honor a guarantee?

We didn't find a Thai complaint process in the sources we read, so we can't point to one. The Consumer Council in Hong Kong advises taking photos or videos after each treatment and keeping "all transaction documents and treatment records as proof." Get the guarantee terms in writing before you pay.

Does the guarantee cover flights and a hotel for a second procedure?

No Thai page we read says. A UK clinic that doesn't offer guarantees says you'll "probably need to cover the cost of flights, accommodation, and other travel costs." HDC Hair Clinic in Cyprus says it can provide patients from abroad with 4-5 days of free accommodation if requested. Ask before you pay.

Do the ISHRS or ABHRS allow clinics to advertise guarantees?

Both list "Guaranteed results" as misleading wording. The ISHRS says its members must follow its position statement, and the ABHRS puts the phrase under "Inappropriate, Misleading, Inaccurate Terminology." The ISHRS page doesn't discuss a written, limited touch-up policy.
