Hair Transplant in Chiang Mai: Clinics, Prices and What Patients Report

In December 2019, a woman on holiday walked past a Chiang Mai hair clinic and went in. She later told r/FemaleHairLoss: "Then in December I was walking through Chiang Mai, Thailand, on holiday, randomly passed by a hair transplant centre, and just walked in."

For hair transplant surgery in Thailand, Chiang Mai has options: THTC, MP Hair, Lannawadee and Meda publish transplant services there. The r/FemaleHairLoss poster named Dr. Suradej Pong, THTC's surgeon, at what she called the Chiang Mai Hair Transplant Center, then returned for daily checks and washing.

We'd choose the surgeon and follow-up arrangements before booking the trip. Hospital pages need closer attention: an article about hair transplantation doesn't necessarily mean you can book the operation there.

What a hair transplant is and how it is done in Chiang Mai

A hair transplant moves healthy hair from your scalp to an area where it is thinning. The American Academy of Dermatology describes using the patient's existing hair, with the result depending largely on the surgeon selected.

The techniques used in Chiang Mai (FUE, DHI, FUT)

FUE means follicular unit excision: the surgeon removes individual groups of hair follicles using small punches. FUT means follicular unit transplantation, commonly used for the strip method, where a strip of scalp is divided into grafts, as ISHRS explains.

DHI means direct hair implantation. Meda Clinic advertises it alongside FUE, while its transplant page describes FUE with DHI as a combined procedure.

THTC lists FUE and FUT. MP Hair, Lannawadee and Meda describe FUE with DHI, and MP also publishes long-hair DHI cases.

Ask the clinic to explain how it will collect and place your grafts. Ask which donor area the plan uses. If keeping your hair long matters, ask which areas it intends to shave.

The procedure, step by step

The main steps are agreeing on the treatment area, numbing the scalp, collecting grafts and placing them into the planned sites. The order sometimes differs, as ISHRS explains.

Ask who performs each surgical step and who handles the follow-up. So ask the clinic to include those responsibilities in its proposal.

Preparation before the procedure

Meda Clinic advises arranging transport after the procedure rather than driving yourself. So build that return trip into your hotel plans before surgery day.

Request the clinic's preparation instructions before you leave home. Ask the treating doctor to review your medicines and tell you whether anything needs changing, rather than stopping them from a generic online list.

Does it hurt?

The American Academy of Dermatology says most patients remain awake with the scalp numbed; some also receive a mild sedative. Ask how the clinic manages discomfort during surgery and after you return to your hotel.

Get a contact for problems outside appointment hours. You need to know whom to call if pain or another symptom worries you.

Who is a good candidate

The American Academy of Dermatology identifies two requirements: enough healthy scalp hair to transplant and the ability to grow hair in the thinning area. A consultation and scalp examination establish whether those conditions are met.

Ask the surgeon to explain the cause of your hair loss and the coverage they consider realistic. A clinic offering a particular technique doesn't settle whether that technique suits you.

How many grafts do you need?

A follicular-unit graft contains a natural group of hair follicles, so a graft count isn't simply a count of individual hairs. ISHRS describes FUE as removing these groups for transplantation.

THTC publishes a maximum of 3,500 grafts per session in its FUT pricing section, with larger cases split into separate sessions (read 9 October 2026). Ask whether the proposed count fits one session and what another session would mean for travel.

We'd want the surgeon to explain which areas the quoted grafts will cover. A clinic's maximum tells you its stated session limit; your consultation needs to establish your treatment plan.

Hair transplant clinics in Chiang Mai compared

These four clinic names publish Chiang Mai transplant services. We compare what they publish and have not visited them.

Clinic Published techniques Named doctor or team Published transplant price?
Thailand Hair Transplant Center FUE and FUT; eyebrow and facial-hair services Dr. Suradej Pong Yes, separate FUE and FUT rates
MP Hair Clinic FUE with DHI; long-hair DHI Dr. Peera, named in MP's own case material Yes, group course and Short Hair DHI rates
Lannawadee / Lon Nadi FUE with DHI Dr. Teerasak Pattayadeekul and Dr. Thaweeporn Treepraphakorn No price published on the cited page
Meda Clinic FUE and DHI The same named doctors as Lannawadee No price published on the cited page

Thailand Hair Transplant Center (THTC) - Dr. Suradej Pong

Dr. Pong's full name appears as Suradej Pongratananukul in the ISHRS directory. It lists him as a Full Member and an ABHRS Diplomate, with THTC's Chiang Mai address.

THTC says he personally performs and supervises procedures with his surgical team. Its published services include FUE and FUT, giving you both methods to discuss at consultation.

MP Hair Clinic / MP Clinic Center - Dr. Peera

MP publishes separate pages for MP Clinic Center in Mae Hia and MP Clinic Airport on Chiang Mai Hang Dong Road. The Center page includes long-hair DHI cases; Airport describes FUE with DHI.

The clinic's MP Hair Clinic material identifies Dr. Peera in its case content. Confirm the surgeon's full name and the branch handling your operation before choosing a hotel.

Lannawadee / Lon Nadi Clinic

Lannawadee uses the name Lon Nadi on its transplant page and lists Dr. Teerasak Pattayadeekul and Dr. Thaweeporn Treepraphakorn. It describes FUE with DHI and claims ABHRS credentials for both doctors.

Lannawadee lists ABHRS credentials for both doctors. Ask for each doctor's directory listing and a written quote, since the page publishes no transplant price.

Meda Clinic

Meda and Lannawadee publish the same named doctors and a shared Tha Sala address. So if you contact both, ask whether you're comparing appointments with the same surgical team.

Meda describes FUE and DHI but publishes no transplant price on that page. Request the operating location as part of the quote so you can plan the return visits.

Names that come up but are not confirmed as Chiang Mai options

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai discusses FUT and FUE in a hair-loss education article. The article doesn't confirm that the hospital performs those operations.

Lanna Hospital's services in the UK government's healthcare listing don't include hair transplantation. Contact the hospital directly if you want a hospital-based procedure.

Bookimed lists Dr. Chen Clinic, and Medijump lists Clever Clinic. Treat those as directory leads until the clinic itself confirms the operation, surgeon and location.

Tsilosani Clinic also has a Chiang Mai page, but its text describes operations in Georgia and other countries. A city in a page title is insufficient confirmation of a local clinic.

Surgeon credentials to check before you book

Dr. Pong's ISHRS profile lists his membership and Diplomate status separately.

Use the doctor's full name when checking a listing. Then ask who will collect the grafts, make the recipient sites and supervise placement in your operation.

Get the operating surgeon's name in writing before paying a deposit.

Hair transplant prices in Chiang Mai

Published clinic prices

THTC and MP Hair publish prices that let you start a comparison before consultation. Lannawadee and Meda require an individual quote.

Clinic and service Published price per graft What the price line says
THTC, FUE US$3.00 Flat rate regardless of graft count
THTC, smaller FUT sessions From US$2.25 Rate depends on session size
THTC, larger FUT sessions US$1.89 to US$2.20 Published range for larger sessions
MP Hair Clinic, general transplant course From THB 100, about US$3.02 Nine-month course; the price line names no technique
MP Hair Clinic, Short Hair DHI THB 60, about US$1.81 Short-hair/shaving technique, including nine months of care

Price pages read 4-9 October 2026.

Dollar conversions use THB 33.14 = US$1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026): THB 100 / 33.14 = US$3.02, and THB 60 / 33.14 = US$1.81, rounded. THTC quotes dollars directly.

MP's general course and Short Hair DHI offer need separate explanations from the clinic. So ask which applies to your case before comparing the total with THTC.

Our Thailand hair transplant cost guide covers the wider budget. For Chiang Mai, get the proposed graft count and all inclusions on the same written quote.

What patients have actually been quoted

A September 2025 poster on r/HairTransplants had a quote from MP Hair and wanted to hear from people who knew the clinic.

If a forum quote differs from the clinic's advertised offer, send the clinic the link and ask what applies to you. Check the technique and included follow-up before treating the difference as a discount.

What the price should include

THTC calls its price all-inclusive and lists pain relief, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, daily hair washing and postoperative care. Its list specifies daily washes and checkups until departure.

Ask MP how its nine-month care offer works when you live overseas. Get the in-person appointments and remote follow-up arrangements written down before committing to flights.

Keep accommodation and transport explicit in the quote. Help finding a hotel and paying for a hotel are different commitments.

What real patients say about Chiang Mai

Independent patient accounts (forums and Reddit)

The woman who had her December 2019 procedure with Dr. Pong described repeated aftercare visits in her December 2021 r/FemaleHairLoss post. She wrote: "I went in everyday to check for bubbles forming and everyday they washed and shampooed my hair."

A poster in a 2011 HairLossTalk thread said they had surgery with Dr. Pong in December and called the work "first rate." That is a much older account to weigh alongside a conversation with the clinic today.

One Reddit thread with opinions on MP Hair's work is split. In an August 2026 r/HairTransplants thread, a commenter recommended it as "A lot cheaper and a lot more upscale" and wrote, "Idk I'm very happy with my results."

Another person in that thread raised concerns based on Instagram photos. We'd ask to see a complete case history and speak with the proposed surgeon before choosing on either comment.

Clinic-published reviews (labeled)

A testimonial published by THTC says: "I would rather be in Chiang Mai than Bangkok or at home for the post-operative period." The reviewer describes nearby hotels and daily visits during the early recovery stay.

Another clinic-published THTC review describes returning for washing and checks. These accounts give you a concrete service to ask about: who will wash your hair, where and on which days.

Before and after results

All four clinics in the table publish galleries or review material. Ask for follow-up images with the operation date and the time elapsed, especially when the page mixes immediate postoperative photos with later results.

The American Academy of Dermatology says: "Most patients see results between six and nine months after surgery. For some patients, it takes 12 months."

Structured case reviews with graft counts and timeline

MP Hair Clinic publishes long-hair DHI case reviews and says results and treatment duration vary between people. Use the case format to request the same details for the work you're considering.

Ask for the planned graft count, the area treated and later follow-up images from the same case. If a clinic shows only the hairline, request views of the area where the grafts were taken too.

Before and after by patient type

THTC groups its gallery menu into Caucasian Men, Asian Men, Black Men, and Women & LGBT. Those labels can help you find examples to discuss with the surgeon.

Ask which cases resemble your starting hair loss and the work you're requesting. Have the doctor explain any important differences rather than choosing a result photo as a promise of your own.

Why choose a hair transplant in Thailand over Turkey

Prospective patients do weigh the two countries. In a January 2024 r/Thailand discussion, one commenter wrote, "If not much you can do it here, otherwise I would go to Turkey."

We'd compare the proposed operations before using that advice to choose a country. Request the named surgeon, coverage plan and follow-up arrangements from each clinic, then add the travel required to attend those appointments.

Use our Thailand vs Turkey comparison when both countries remain on your shortlist. Chiang Mai makes sense when you've chosen a local surgeon and can stay for their follow-up schedule.

Chiang Mai vs Bangkok for a patient flying in

If you're arriving through Bangkok, allow for the onward flight. DepartureMap puts the typical Bangkok to Chiang Mai flight at about one hour to one hour and 15 minutes.

That is flight time. Add room in your itinerary for the connection and get the clinic's advice on your arrival date before buying tickets.

Availability can also change the choice. A commenter in a September 2026 r/HairTransplants thread described a long booking lead time for Bangkok surgeon Dr. Ratchathorn.

That comment concerns one surgeon. Ask your shortlisted doctors for actual dates instead of assuming Chiang Mai will be available sooner.

We'd stay in Bangkok if the surgeon we preferred operated there. We'd add the Chiang Mai flight for a named doctor and an agreed care plan, rather than assume the city itself makes recovery better.

Planning your trip: hotels, follow-up visits and the burning season

How many days to stay and how early to arrive

In a Bangkok-focused r/HairTransplants discussion, a commenter suggested arriving two to three days early to allow for delays and rest. Use that as a travel suggestion to discuss with your Chiang Mai clinic.

An Australian patient's story published by medical-travel agency Hospigo describes a week of hotel rest and a checkup before flying home. The story names Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai as the treatment site, which the hospital's own article, noted above, doesn't confirm. Ask your surgeon for your own departure date and required visits before committing to that length of stay.

Hotels near the clinic

THTC lists Victoria Nimman Hotel, B2 Nimman Premier Hotel and Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel among its walking-distance options. Start with the clinic's location when comparing rooms, since you'll be returning for care.

Those suggestions concern THTC. For MP Center, MP Airport, Meda or Lannawadee, confirm the operating branch before choosing accommodation near a different clinic.

Follow-up visits and clinic hours

THTC's published care offer includes daily washing and checkups until departure. The THTC contact page gives weekday office hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and says it closes on Sundays and Thai public holidays.

Confirm Saturday appointment times directly and ask how care is arranged on closure days. So have the clinic put your visits on an itinerary that fits your flight home.

For longer follow-up, ask who reviews photographs after you leave Thailand and how to reach the treating doctor. Agree on that process while you're booking, when you can still compare clinics' answers.

Avoiding the burning-season smoke

OutThailand describes smoke season as roughly mid-February through April, with March typically worst. If your dates are flexible, factor that into choosing when to visit.

Meda Clinic tells patients to avoid dust and prolonged sun exposure after surgery. Discuss your travel dates and plans with your surgeon, including how you'll get to appointments if outdoor conditions are unpleasant.

A hair transplant with a vacation

A patient who had surgery in Bangkok called Chiang Mai "a must" for its history and surrounding national parks in a May 2025 r/HairTransplants post. The same person described worrying about sweating during travel.

Plan sightseeing around the surgeon's activity instructions. Meda's published aftercare advice restricts exercise and swimming, so get the clinic's timetable before making those activities part of your trip.

We'd leave the postoperative itinerary open until the care schedule is confirmed. A hotel stay with clinic visits is already how some of the patients above spent their time in Chiang Mai.

Reviews and testimonials

Look for a review that names the surgeon and describes what happened after the operation. The THTC patient's account of repeated washing visits gives you a service to compare against the aftercare offered today.

Keep the review's date attached to it. A 2011 procedure report, a 2025 question about a quote and a 2026 recommendation describe different stages of choosing and using a clinic.

Follow an author's later updates where available. For a clinic-published testimonial, ask to see the corresponding treatment details before using it to assess the operation you want.

Does a hair transplant look natural?

A natural-looking result is possible, but it isn't guaranteed by choosing Chiang Mai or a named technique. The American Academy of Dermatology points to hairline design and hair placement as factors in appearance, with outcomes depending largely on the surgeon.

Ask the doctor to show you the proposed hairline and explain the coverage they expect for your case. Review that plan before agreeing to the operation.

Consultation and contact

Ask for a written proposal naming the surgeon and operating branch, with the method, graft count and total price. Have the clinic attach its preparation instructions and follow-up schedule so you can plan the whole stay.

THTC publishes direct contact details, while MP Hair Clinic has branch contact information. With Meda and Lannawadee, clarify the shared team and address when requesting an appointment.

Before paying, use our Thailand booking guide to work through the deposit and confirmation steps. You can also contact AsiaPatient with the clinics you're considering and your travel dates.

Frequently asked questions

How many days should I plan to stay?

Get the treating clinic's required stay in writing before booking your return flight. The Hospigo story describes a week in Chiang Mai, while the THTC patient described repeated daily checks and washing. Neither account sets your medical timetable; ask for your appointment schedule and departure advice.

Where should I stay in Chiang Mai for surgery?

Choose accommodation near the branch doing your operation and follow-up. THTC lists Victoria Nimman, B2 Nimman Premier and Chiang Mai Orchid as walking-distance options. So if you book MP Hair or another clinic, confirm its address before choosing a hotel.

Does anyone have experience with MP Hair Clinic?

MP appears in Reddit discussions, including an August 2026 commenter who said they were happy with their results. The same thread contains another person's concerns about Instagram photos. Ask the clinic for complete cases from your proposed surgeon and read the patients' later updates where available.

Is Chiang Mai cheaper than Bangkok for a hair transplant?

You need comparable written quotes to answer that for your case. THTC and MP publish different rates for different services, while Meda and Lannawadee require a quote. Compare the same proposed work and follow-up, then add the travel needed to attend each clinic.

Should I choose Thailand or Turkey?

Choose after comparing named surgeons and treatment plans in both countries. For Chiang Mai, establish who will operate, which branch you'll attend and how follow-up works after you leave. Price the travel around that plan before deciding whether the trip fits your budget and available time.
