4,000 and 5,000 Graft Hair Transplant in Thailand: Coverage and Published Clinic Costs
A patient expecting about 3,500 grafts for a hair transplant in Thailand reported receiving 4,624. The patient wrote on r/HairTransplants: "they said my donor was much stronger than they anticipated."
The surgeon decides your count at consultation. At 4,000 grafts, totals from published rates and packages are from ฿150,000 at Dr. Top, starting at ฿240,000 at Hairtran, and ฿320,000 at Hairsmith; the count alone doesn't establish whole-top coverage.
Before committing to 4,000 or 5,000 grafts, ask the surgeon what your donor hair can supply and where those grafts would go.
What 4,000 and 5,000 grafts mean
A graft can contain more than one hair. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) describes follicular units as natural clusters of one to four hairs.
FUE means follicular unit excision: individual units are removed for transplantation. In large hair transplants, a 4,000-graft count describes units, so it doesn't tell you the exact number of hairs in your procedure.
The other number to establish is how many grafts your proposed treatment needs. Hairtran says it calculates the precise count for the desired density after analysis.
So ask the surgeon to explain the count alongside the area being treated. A quote should distinguish rebuilding a hairline from adding density through the top or treating the crown.
What can 4,000 grafts cover?
You can't establish whole-top coverage from 4,000 grafts alone. The ISHRS says donor evaluation determines the expected graft count and possible coverage, including the procedure's limitations.
The surgeon decides the count and recipient-area plan at consultation. The recipient area is where the grafts will be placed; ask for the proposed hairline, front, midscalp and crown work to be marked out.
Patients describe quite different priorities at similar counts. A 4,200-graft poster on r/Hairtransplant wrote that the work was "mainly focusing on rebuilding the hairline/temples and adding density through the top."
In a 4,100-graft account, a Hair Restoration Network patient described "4000 grafts planted in the frontal third" and a possible smaller crown procedure later. The plan left the crown for a separate decision.
So ask which areas your surgeon proposes to leave untreated, as well as where the grafts will go. If your main concern is the crown, have the surgeon explain how much of the proposed count is allocated there before agreeing to a hairline-focused plan.
What changes at 5,000 grafts?
There is no fixed coverage answer for 5,000 grafts either. The extra grafts need a proposed destination and a donor assessment that supports taking them.
A prospective patient illustrated the conflict on Hair Restoration Network. The poster wanted 4,500 to 5,000 grafts but wrote: "you estimated I had only 3,000 available from the photos I sent of my scalp's donor area."
That was a consultation question from someone still choosing a surgeon. Ask what the surgeon would recommend if your available donor hair falls short of the count you hoped for.
A 5,000-graft account on Hair Restoration Network described combined FUT (strip harvesting) and FUE. Another patient's procedure might use a different way of collecting grafts.
Thai-clinic totals for 4,000 and 5,000 grafts, calculated from published rates
For country-level per-graft comparisons, use our FUE cost guide. Here we calculate totals at three Bangkok clinics from their own published rates or package terms.
We compare what clinics publish; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited these clinics or had a procedure at them. These calculations need confirmation against your assessed plan.
Dr. Top, Hairtran and Hairsmith prices were read 26 October 2026; Hairsmith's page still labels its rate "2025 pricing".
| Clinic and published basis | 4,000 grafts: baht calculation | 5,000 grafts: baht calculation |
|---|---|---|
| Dr. Top Hair Hospital: short-hair tier, two sessions, up to 4,000 grafts; from ฿150,000, plus ฿10,000 per extra 500 grafts | Published package: from ฿150,000, about US$4,530 | ฿150,000 + (2 x ฿10,000) = from ฿170,000, about US$5,130 |
| Hairtran Clinic: shaven FUE starting at ฿60 per graft | ฿60 x 4,000 = starting at ฿240,000, about US$7,240 | ฿60 x 5,000 = starting at ฿300,000, about US$9,050 |
| Hairsmith: standard rate of ฿80 per graft, labeled 2025 pricing; minimum 1,000 grafts | ฿80 x 4,000 = ฿320,000, about US$9,660 | ฿80 x 5,000 = ฿400,000, about US$12,070 |
Dollars at ฿33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026). Dollar totals are our conversions, rounded to the nearest US$10.
Dr. Top's 4,000-graft figure is a package starting price. Its extra-500-graft charge supports the 5,000-graft calculation, but you still need the clinic to confirm the plan and schedule for that count.
Hairtran says the final fee depends on actual graft use and technique. Ask Hairtran whether a different rate applies above 3,500 grafts. Hairsmith's standard rate doesn't apply to non-shaven FUE, which has a separate price on the same page.
Compare the exact procedure and included care in each written quote.
Your full Thailand budget: clinic quote and travel plan
Keep the clinic bill and your travel arrangements separate. A procedure total needs an inclusion list before you can decide what else to budget for.
Dr. Top includes a pre-operative check-up, four post-operative cleanses and consultations, plus medication and painkillers. Its separately listed hotel extras cover three nights, airport pickup and drop-off, clinic transfers and a hair-care kit (offers read 26 October 2026).
So get the accommodation dates matched to your agreed appointments. A three-night hotel offer doesn't establish how long your own treatment and follow-up will require you to stay.
| Part of the budget | What to put in writing |
|---|---|
| Clinic procedure | Technique, graft count or band, procedure total, tests, medication and follow-up included |
| Accommodation | Whether the clinic supplies it, which nights are covered, and the charge for any additional nights |
| Transport | Which airport and clinic journeys are included, and which you must arrange |
| Flights | Your own fare for the dates agreed with the clinic |
| Time away from work | The appointment dates and time you need to arrange away from work |
| Other arrangements | Separately booked insurance and any optional items you choose |
The 5,000-graft patient who posted on Hair Restoration Network booked the hotel and flights through Agoda and bought travel insurance at home. The poster listed scalp washing, wound care and low-level laser therapy among the procedure inclusions.
For a trip from the US, UK or Australia, put your own travel quotes beside the clinic's written total.
Why a 4,000 or 5,000 graft quote can differ
Hairtran ties its final fee to actual graft use and the selected technique. Ask how the clinic approves and prices a changed count before the procedure begins.
Dr. Top uses a tier and extra-graft increments, while Hairsmith separates standard and non-shaven rates. The same requested count can therefore produce quotes with different billing rules.
Photo estimates can also change. A patient on r/HairTransplants reported a final count of 4,047 after an estimate of 2,500 from photos.
So ask what happens to the fee if the assessed count is lower or higher, and whether a package band still applies. Our guide to graft counts changing from the quote covers that discussion in more detail.
Do you have enough donor hair for 4,000 or 5,000 grafts?
Hairtran says having enough healthy donor hair at the back is the key factor. How much hair you want to replace doesn't establish how much the donor area can supply.
Ask the surgeon to explain donor density, hair quality and the proposed extraction pattern. The ISHRS includes those assessments in planning what can be taken and what coverage is possible.
Future loss belongs in that conversation. A donor-planning paper indexed on PubMed says lifetime demand must be weighed against the possible cosmetic harm to the donor area from repeated FUE harvesting.
One patient with about 4,000 grafts wrote on r/HairTransplants: "I also didn't want to use all my available donor area incase I need one in the future."
Ask what donor supply the surgeon proposes to leave for possible later work. An online graft target or another patient's photos can't answer that for you.
Do Thai clinics do this in one day or split it?
Dr. Top lists two sessions for its tier up to 4,000 grafts; confirm the calendar dates. Hairtran's FUE page and Absolute's 4,000-graft case page don't specify a schedule for these large counts. Ask the surgeon how the plan protects the donor area: the ISHRS describes overharvesting as visible thinning with patches of hair loss.
What patient accounts of 4,000-plus graft procedures say
Patients describe different allocations, changing estimates and lengthy procedure days. Read the count alongside the treated area and technique before comparing their experience with your proposed plan.
Crown allocation and a count that doesn't add up
A patient posting on Hair Restoration Network described "3,500 grafts for the crown, 500 for the hairline, and 100 for the right temple." The thread calls the procedure 4,030 grafts, but those allocations total 4,100.
The account describes a crown-focused procedure, but its counts don't reconcile. The poster also reported starting at 8 a.m. and finishing around 7 p.m.
Long days and single-session reports
A 4,500-graft patient on r/HairTransplants described "4000 grafts to the crown, 500 in the temple areas." The poster called it an 11-hour day.
A different patient wrote on Hair Restoration Network: "The total Grafts of 4355 were done in one session." Ask your clinic for your own appointment schedule rather than booking around either patient's day.
Historical patient-reported prices
In a pre-operation post, a 4,000-graft patient on Hair Restoration Network, posted 12 June 2024, reported ฿80 per graft and a ฿320,000 total at Absolute Hair Clinic. The poster said platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and light therapy were included, while hyperbaric oxygen treatment was separate.
The 5,000-graft FUT plus FUE patient on Hair Restoration Network, posted 26 January 2023, reported ฿70 x 5,000 = ฿350,000. Both amounts are historical patient reports, not current clinic-published rates.
Keep the procedure date, technique and extras beside any patient bill you compare. Absolute's own linked case page confirms a 4,000-graft FUE case, but publishes no price or operating schedule there.
FUE, DHI, and FUT labels in large-graft pages
FUT means follicular unit transplantation. The ISHRS describes taking a strip of scalp tissue and separating it into grafts; FUE collects the follicular units individually.
The 5,000-graft patient's combined FUT and FUE account therefore needs that technique label beside the count. It doesn't give you a quote for 5,000 grafts using FUE alone.
If a quote calls the proposed work a DHI hair transplant, ask the clinic to explain the harvesting and placement methods it proposes. Get the shaving plan confirmed too, especially when comparing a standard rate with non-shaven work.
The ISHRS says FUE setup, execution, staffing and equipment vary by surgeon. Ask who performs each step, rather than assuming the technique label answers that question.
What to get in writing before you book
The 4,200-graft poster on r/Hairtransplant advised readers to "request the cost per graft in writing." A package quote also needs its count limit and the price of work outside that limit.
Get the assessed plan and the full price on the same written quote.
Ask for these details:
- The planned graft count or range, with the areas to be treated.
- The exact technique and which areas will be shaved.
- The total in baht, the calculation behind it, and whether it is a starting price.
- What happens to the bill if the graft count changes.
- The surgeon's name and the team's roles in extraction, incisions and placement.
- The procedure date or dates, plus consultation and follow-up appointments.
- Included tests, medication, wound care and follow-up after you return home.
- Excluded accommodation, transfers and optional treatments.
- Deposit, cancellation and rescheduling terms.
- The donor assessment supporting the count and the plan for future hair loss.
Our written-quote checklist covers the inclusion questions in depth. Once the clinic has answered them, use the Thailand booking guide for the booking steps.
Questions to ask in a 4,000 or 5,000 graft consultation
Use the consultation to decide what work is appropriate. Bring your priorities, then ask the surgeon to connect each area to the count and available donor hair.
- Which areas would you prioritize: hairline, temples, front, midscalp or crown?
- What donor-density and hair-quality assessment supports this count?
- What areas would remain untreated under your proposed plan?
- What would you change if the examination supports fewer grafts?
- How much donor supply would remain for possible future treatment?
- How will the procedure and follow-up appointments fit into my stay?
If two surgeons recommend different counts, ask each to explain the proposed allocation and donor assessment. Get those answers before comparing the final totals or committing to travel dates.
Sources and method
We calculate the clinic table from each clinic's published rate or package terms, preserving starting-price qualifiers and the recorded read dates. Patient experiences and historical payments are attributed separately; the ISHRS guidance supports the assessment questions.

Frequently asked questions
How much will 4,000 grafts cost in Thailand?
Dr. Top's published tier is from ฿150,000 for up to 4,000 grafts. Hairtran's shaven-FUE starting rate gives ฿60 x 4,000 = starting at ฿240,000; Hairsmith's standard rate gives ฿80 x 4,000 = ฿320,000. Ask Hairtran whether a different rate applies above 3,500 grafts.
The clinic table links each source and records its read date. Your written quote needs to confirm the technique, count and inclusions.
Does 4,000 grafts cover the whole top of my head?
The count alone can't establish that. The ISHRS says donor evaluation determines the possible count and coverage. Your surgeon decides the count at consultation and should show which areas the proposed plan covers.
Do I have enough donor hair for 4,000 or 5,000 grafts?
That needs a surgeon's assessment of your donor area. Ask how the surgeon assessed its density and hair quality, and what would remain for future treatment. The patient's change from an estimated 3,500 to a reported 4,624 grafts doesn't predict your available supply.
How should I split the grafts between crown and hairline?
Ask the surgeon for an allocation based on your assessment and priorities. Patients cited above describe both crown-focused work and a frontal-third procedure with the crown left for later. Ask what each proposed allocation would leave untreated before agreeing to the total count.
Will the large-case rate be honored?
Get the applicable rate or package band, graft-count basis, inclusions and optional charges in writing. Ask how the clinic handles a changed count and when it confirms the final fee. A published starting price doesn't guarantee your total, and another patient's bill doesn't show the clinic's price for you.
