Hair Transplant Add-Ons in Thailand: PRP, Stem Cell and How to Avoid Surprises
One patient planning a hair transplant in Thailand heard about the extras during their video consultation with Bangkok Hair Clinic. "Dr Jirayu explained add on services that were an option but in no way was trying to upsell," they wrote on r/HairTransplants in July 2026.
They were offered "regenera activa cell plus therapy for 60,000THB and PRP for 7,500THB." Both prices came at the April consultation, for a July surgery, and they took the PRP and passed on the cell therapy.
Thai hair restoration clinics do offer add-ons: PRP, cell treatments sold under stem cell names, growth factor injections and laser. In the patient accounts we read, add-ons came up at the consultation, at the pre-op visit and on the day of surgery, and nobody said they were pushed into one.
To avoid a surprise on the day, get every add-on and its price in writing before you pay a deposit.
What an add-on means on the day of your transplant
An add-on is a treatment billed on top of the graft fee or the package price. Examples include PRP and treatments sold under stem cell names.
HairTran's cost guide puts it this way: "While the procedure fee is the primary cost, real-world treatment journeys may involve additional items that are not always included in the initial quotation." One item on its list is "Optional treatments or supportive programs after surgery."
The line between included and extra moves from clinic to clinic. HairTran says the fees communicated during consultation "typically include prescribed medications, shampoo, and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)," and that "patients may choose to add Optional Hair Care treatments."
Bangkok Hair Clinic's Thai FAQ says many clinics run packages that may include "post-transplant services such as a GFC hair-nourishment program or post-surgery hair washing" (translated from Thai). Our packages guide covers what those bundles hold.
The add-ons Thai clinics actually offer
Clinics use different names for similar treatments. So the name you hear on the day can differ from the one you read about. This table maps the names Bangkok clinics use on their own pages (read 21 October 2026; Absolute Hair Clinic's PRP page 9 October 2026).
| Add-on | What the clinic says it is | Clinics that list it |
|---|---|---|
| PRP, or a platelet treatment under another name | A concentrate made from your own blood, injected into the scalp | Bangkok Hair Clinic, HairTran (as Optional Hair Care), Absolute Hair Clinic, DHI Thailand |
| Cell Plus, CPT, Regenera Activa | A cell therapy using the Rigenera device, which Bangkok Hair Clinic says clinics describe under different names, including stem cell names | Bangkok Hair Clinic, DHI Thailand |
| Exosomes | "cell-free MSC-derived exosomes", delivered to the scalp | Healthi Life |
| GFC (growth factor concentrate) | Growth factors drawn from your own blood | Bangkok Hair Clinic, DHI Thailand |
| LLLT (low-level laser therapy) | A laser cap, or laser sessions | Hairsmith, HairTran, Bangkok Hair Clinic |
| LPT (laser peptide therapy) | A laser combined with a peptide complex | Bangkok Hair Clinic |
PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
A platelet treatment starts with a blood draw. HairTran's version, which it calls Optional Hair Care, "utilizes concentrated platelets from your own blood to nourish and strengthen hair follicles."
Its page says "The procedure involves a blood draw and centrifugation to isolate concentrated platelets rich in Growth Factors, Proteins, and Cytokines." HairTran markets it to "Patients looking for post-transplant maintenance to maximize results."
For the Bangkok Hair Clinic patient, PRP happened during the surgery itself. "I also had some blood taken from my arm which was for the PRP injections during implantation. Dr Jate showed me two syringes containing the yellowish liquid plasma."
Treatments sold as stem cell therapy: Cell Plus, Regenera Activa and exosomes
"Stem cell" covers more than one product in Thailand. Bangkok Hair Clinic's Cell Plus page explains why the names vary: "Each clinic may use a different name for it, such as hair transplant with hair-root cells or stem-cell injection for thinning hair, but every clinic uses the same type of device, the Rigenera" (translated from Thai).
The spelling varies too. Bangkok Hair Clinic writes Rigenera, one patient wrote "regenera activa cell plus" and another wrote "Regenera Activa". As Bangkok Hair Clinic describes it, these names refer to the same family of treatment.
Bangkok Hair Clinic says Cell Plus can be combined with a transplant. Its English homepage lists it as "Cell Plus therapy" and as "Hair Root Restoration Services (CPT)."
Exosomes are a different product. Healthi Life in Bangkok says its therapy "uses cell-free MSC-derived exosomes," delivered "to the scalp via microneedling or mesotherapy." The clinic labels it investigational.
Other names turn up in patient posts. One patient at a Bangkok clinic received "Growth Factor, SVF Stemboost (AMT), and Autologous Micro Grafting Technology" as part of their treatment, with no price given.
Growth factor concentrate (GFC)
Bangkok Hair Clinic's GFC page describes a treatment that uses technology "to extract growth factors from the patient's own blood" (translated from Thai). It lists five steps: assess the scalp, take a blood sample, extract the concentrate, inject it into the affected area, then give scalp-care advice.
Its English homepage calls it "Hair Nourishment Programs (GFC)." Neither page shows a price. DHI Thailand also names GFC on its Thai homepage.
Laser: LLLT and LPT
LLLT stands for low-level laser therapy. Some clinics include a cap, while others describe sessions.
Hairsmith includes "Unlimited use of a low-level laser therapy (LLLT) hair growth cap for one year" in its transplant price. HairTran says LLLT is typically in the fees communicated during consultation.
Bangkok Hair Clinic's LLLT page says the laser can be used "together with hair transplant surgery." It adds that the doctor normally recommends "1-2 times per week, taking about 15-20 minutes each time" (translated from Thai, read 21 October 2026).
LPT, or laser peptide therapy, is a separate Bangkok Hair Clinic treatment. Its Thai programs page describes it as combining "Thulium Fractional Laser with an HMPF Complex" (translated from Thai).
HBOT and red light in aftercare
Some add-ons arrive inside the aftercare plan instead of as a separate offer. One Bangkok patient's initial estimate "was 3,000-3,500 grafts at 90 baht per graft, including five days of aftercare: Hair washing and red light therapy, One HBOT session, One PRP injection."
HBOT stands for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The same patient later paid for an "Additional HBOT package" at ฿15,000 (about $450), and a second patient's 2025 breakdown lists HBOT at ฿14,000 (about $420).
How add-ons get introduced: up front or on the day
The accounts we read show add-ons raised at the consultation, at the pre-op visit, and on the day of surgery. None of the patients said they were pushed into one.
A late offer is still a risk to plan for. A decision made on the day leaves no time to compare prices or check whether the treatment is already in your quote.
Priced at the consultation, with a written fee summary
This is the model to ask for. After the video call, the Bangkok Hair Clinic patient "received a comprehensive Messenger message with the video call summary including daily schedule of the procedure pre and post op guides and summary of fees."
With the add-on prices in hand, they looked into both before deciding. "I decided to pass on regenera due to the higher cost and no actual proof it will help me, but went with PRP which was quite cheap and had scientific research to prove it assists with healing which appealed to me."
The evidence section below covers what published sources say.
Given a night to decide
A Bangkok patient who had surgery in September 2026 discussed Regenera Activa "along with exosome therapy" with their surgeon before surgery. "Again, there was no pressure to buy. I told them I'd sleep on it and let them know the following morning before surgery," they wrote on r/HairTransplants.
The next morning: "I arrived at the clinic at 8:00 a.m., confirmed that I wanted the Regenera Activa treatment." It cost them ฿45,000 (about $1,360). They wrote: "A lot of money, but I felt it might help boost my crown area and strengthen the existing hair."
The decision came on the morning of surgery.
Added on the day
One patient at a Bangkok clinic wrote in October 2026: "I also added PRP on the day." The post doesn't say who suggested it, and the same patient found everyone "friendly without it feeling overly salesy."
Their graft count moved on the day too. "I originally expected somewhere around 1,800-2,200 grafts, but after assessing everything properly on the day, we ended up going higher," and it ended at 2,700.
If that happens to you, our page on a graft count that differs from the quote covers what to ask.
The same patient wrote: "I was given a comprehensive rundown before the procedure, but I didn't photograph it." So take a photo of any breakdown you're shown.
A HairTran patient in 2024 described PRP as a recommendation, and in a later reply as "a bit of an upsell." "They would just recommend you to do PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) to enhance hair growth and the chance of keeping the grafts. You get it much cheaper as it usually costs," they wrote on r/HairTransplants.
They paid ฿100,000 (about $3,020) in total for 1,800 grafts with PRP. Their graft count had dropped from 2,500 on photos to 1,800 in person, which they read as a good sign: "it also tells you she is not trying to sell you more than you really need just to make money."
Raised once, then dropped
A second patient in the Bangkok Hair Clinic thread wrote in French in September 2026: "il m'ont aussi parler du PRP mais j'ai rien compris et il ne m'en n'ont pas reparler."
Translated from French: "they also talked to me about the PRP but I didn't understand anything and they didn't mention it again."
Nothing was pushed, but the patient never understood the offer. So if language is a worry, our guide to English-speaking clinics in Thailand covers that side.
Price pressure and fees around booking
Surprises don't only come from add-ons. One patient was told the price would change: "They told me they gonna change the price after me, so not sure if this is a strategy to convince people a bit faster to make a decision or maybe it's true, I will follow up on that and ask them when I am back in the clinic."
Fees around booking are another place a surprise can come from. A poster on r/Thailand asked in March 2026: "Do you really need to pay ฿5000 for the queue reservation?"
For comparison, the Bangkok Hair Clinic patient paid "a 10,000THB deposit using a GBPrimePay link to secure my date." Our booking guide covers deposits.
What add-ons cost in Thailand
Clinics publish prices for platelet treatments and exosomes. For cell therapies and HBOT, the figures we found come from patients.
Published clinic prices
We compare what clinics publish; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited these clinics or had a procedure at them. Clinic prices in this table were read 21 October 2026, except Absolute Hair Clinic's, read 9 October 2026.
| Clinic | Add-on | Published price | In US dollars |
|---|---|---|---|
| HairTran | Optional Hair Care (platelet treatment) | "15,000 THB/time (Special promo 12,000 THB)"; "Package of 6 times 54,000 THB (Avg 9,000 THB)" | About $450 a session, $360 at the promo price, $1,630 for six |
| Absolute Hair Clinic | PRP | "20000 Baht ($625 USD) per each injection"; "Package 50000 Baht for 3 monthly injections" | The clinic writes $625; about $600 at our rate, and $1,510 for three |
| Healthi Life | Exosome hair therapy | ฿35,000 per session; the 50ml IV protocol is ฿150,000 | About $1,060; about $4,530 |
| Hairsmith | LLLT hair growth cap | Included for one year in its ฿80-a-graft transplant price (2025 pricing) | About $2.41 a graft |
Dollars at ฿33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026).
Healthi Life sells exosome therapy as a hair loss treatment of its own, not as part of a transplant package.
Patient-reported add-on prices
Each row is one patient's own figure, from their own post.
| What the patient reported | Baht | In US dollars | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bangkok Hair Clinic, offered at the consultation: "regenera activa cell plus therapy for 60,000THB and PRP for 7,500THB" | ฿60,000 / ฿7,500 | About $1,810 / $230 | r/HairTransplants, July 2026 |
| A Bangkok patient: Regenera Activa, plus an "Additional HBOT package" | ฿45,000 / ฿15,000 | About $1,360 / $450 | r/HairTransplants, October 2026 |
| A Bangkok patient: Rigenera Activa, exosome and HBOT, on top of "3183 grafts x 90 baht = 286,470 Baht" | ฿37,500 / ฿10,000 / ฿14,000 | About $1,130 / $300 / $420 | r/HairTransplants, August 2025 |
| HairTran: total for 1,800 grafts, PRP included | ฿100,000 | About $3,020 | r/HairTransplants, October 2024 |
In the 2025 breakdown, the three add-ons came to ฿61,500, about $1,860 (37,500 + 10,000 + 14,000). The patient gave the total as "Total = 347,970 Baht ($10,756.41 USD)".
By our arithmetic, the add-ons were 17.7% of that patient's bill (61,500 / 347,970).
Is it already in your quote, or an extra charge?
The same add-on can sit inside the price at one clinic and on a separate line at another.
Hairsmith's cost page says "There are no hidden fees." Its price includes the laser cap for a year and 12 months of medication, "Unlike some clinics that charge 1,000-5,000 baht per month for medications."
HairTran says the fees communicated during consultation typically include LLLT, medication and shampoo, and sells Optional Hair Care separately.
PRP shows the same split. One Bangkok patient's estimate included "One PRP injection," while the Bangkok Hair Clinic patient was offered PRP as a ฿7,500 option.
Ask the clinic to mark each item on your quote as included or extra.
How to get everything priced up front so there are no day-of surprises
Ask for the full add-on list and written fees before you book
Bangkok Hair Clinic's own Thai FAQ gives this advice: "you should consult a doctor to assess the right graft count for your hair problem and ask the clinic for clear price information before deciding" (translated from Thai).
The Messenger fee summary that one patient received is the standard. Ask for one that lists every add-on the clinic offers and its price before you pay the deposit.
Get the fee summary in writing, in a language you read, and save a copy.
Keep a budget line for optional treatments
HairTran's cost guide says: "Many patients choose to reserve an additional budget of approximately THB 5,000-15,000 for these items." That is about $150 to $450.
"These items" covers all the incidental costs on HairTran's list, and optional treatments are one of them. It isn't a price for add-ons, and several add-ons in the tables above cost far more.
Questions to ask before you pay
These are our suggested questions, built from the patient accounts above:
- Which add-ons do you offer, and which are already in my quote?
- What does each one cost, per session and as a package?
- Is it done during surgery or afterwards, and how many sessions does it take?
- Can I decide after the consultation, or on the morning of surgery?
- Can I have every fee in writing before I pay a deposit?
- What published evidence is there for it, and what does the surgeon expect it to do in my case?
Which Bangkok clinics offer add-ons
All the add-on evidence we found comes from Bangkok clinics.
- Bangkok Hair Clinic: its English homepage lists GFC, CPT, Cell Plus, LLLT and LPT, and its Thai programs page adds PRP. Those pages don't show prices.
- HairTran: Optional Hair Care, a platelet treatment, at ฿15,000 a session. LLLT, medication and shampoo are typically in the fees communicated during consultation.
- Hairsmith: ฿80 a graft for standard FUE (2025 pricing), with a laser cap included for a year. Its cost page says "There are no hidden fees."
- Healthi Life: exosome hair therapy at ฿35,000 a session, labeled investigational. It sells this on its own, not as a transplant add-on.
- Absolute Hair Clinic: PRP at ฿20,000 per injection, or ฿50,000 for three monthly injections.
- DHI Thailand: names GFC, PRP and Regenera Activa on its Thai pages, with no prices.
How to verify a clinic's add-on pricing
Start with the clinic's own website. HairTran, Healthi Life, Absolute and Hairsmith publish add-on prices or inclusions, while Bangkok Hair Clinic and DHI Thailand list the treatments without prices.
Prices change.
So ask the clinic for each add-on's price in writing, dated, against your own quote. That figure applies to your booking in a way a forum post or an old price doesn't.
What an add-on involves if you fly home soon after
Some add-ons are given once, during surgery, as PRP was for the Bangkok Hair Clinic patient. Others are a series.
HairTran sells Optional Hair Care as a package of six, and Absolute's PRP package is "3 monthly injections." Bangkok Hair Clinic's laser sessions run 1-2 times a week.
Ask how many sessions the clinic recommends and how many fall inside your stay. A package you can't attend after you fly home buys visits you won't make.
Healthi Life says its hair protocol "always follows a physician assessment of your scalp and pattern." Ask whether any add-on you're offered comes with that kind of assessment first.
Does the add-on you are being offered actually work?
For PRP, the peer-reviewed paper we found is a 2025 systematic review in Cureus by Sindhusen, Tawanwongsri and Eden: "Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma as an Adjunct to Hair Transplantation: A Systematic Review."
Its abstract opens: "Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained attention as a potential adjunctive therapy aimed at enhancing graft survival and promoting hair regrowth." Ask your surgeon what they expect PRP to do for your grafts, and why.
For the cell therapies, exosomes, GFC, laser and HBOT, we didn't find a peer-reviewed paper or medical-society page on their use alongside a hair transplant. What we found is what the clinics say about them.
Healthi Life is plain about its own product: "Exosome therapy is investigational; responses vary between individuals." It also says: "It is not a cure for baldness and does not regrow hair on long-established bald areas."
The Bangkok Hair Clinic patient applied the same test before paying. They skipped the cell therapy because there was "no actual proof it will help me."
Before you accept an add-on, ask the clinic what published evidence supports it, and read the source yourself.
If you have a written quote and questions about what it includes, you can contact us.
Frequently asked questions
Will a clinic in Thailand try to sell me add-ons on the day?
In the patient accounts we read, add-ons came up at the consultation, the pre-op visit or on the day of surgery, and no patient said they were pushed into one. One patient added PRP on the day, and another patient later called PRP "a bit of an upsell." A late offer is still possible, so get the full add-on list and prices in writing before you pay a deposit.
Is PRP already in my hair transplant quote?
Sometimes: one Bangkok patient's estimate included "One PRP injection," while a Bangkok Hair Clinic patient was offered PRP as a ฿7,500 option. HairTran sells its platelet treatment separately. So ask the clinic to mark each item on your quote as included or extra.
What is Regenera or Cell Plus, and is it stem cell therapy?
Bangkok Hair Clinic says every clinic uses the same Rigenera device, under different names such as hair-root cell transplants and stem-cell injections. It calls its own version Cell Plus or CPT, and patients write Regenera Activa. Exosome therapy is a separate product, and we didn't find peer-reviewed evidence on these treatments alongside a transplant.
How much does PRP cost on top of a hair transplant in Thailand?
HairTran publishes its platelet treatment at ฿15,000 a session (about $450), with a ฿12,000 promo price. Absolute Hair Clinic publishes PRP at ฿20,000 per injection. One Bangkok Hair Clinic patient was quoted ฿7,500 for PRP in 2026.
Do I have to decide on an add-on on the day of surgery?
One patient told the clinic they'd sleep on it and confirmed the next morning, writing "there was no pressure to buy."
Another decided from a written fee summary sent after the consultation. Ask your clinic for the same time to decide.
Do I really need to pay ฿5,000 for a queue reservation?
A patient on r/Thailand asked that in March 2026. Booking fees differ by clinic: one Bangkok Hair Clinic patient paid a ฿10,000 deposit. Ask in writing what the fee covers, whether it comes off the final bill and whether you get it back if you cancel.
