Partial-Shaven DHI in Bangkok: What Gets Shaved, Clinic Options and Published Limits
After a 1,500-graft hair transplant in Bangkok, hairman4321 thought the team at Absolute Hair Clinic trimmed a tiny amount of hair in different areas across the back and sides. In their November 2023 Hair Restoration Network thread, they said they opted for non-shaven in the donor area and that they thought the team parted the hair to extract grafts.
Partial shaven DHI at Bangkok Hair Clinic also involves donor trimming: narrow bands beneath longer surrounding hair. Its service page doesn't specify whether the recipient area stays unshaved, so get both areas confirmed before booking. Bangkok Hair Clinic calls the service Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant.
What partial-shaven DHI means at Bangkok clinics
The donor area supplies the hair being moved. The recipient area is where it goes, and a plan to retain hair in one area doesn't answer what happens in the other.
Bangkok Hair Clinic describes small, narrow donor bands at the back of the head. It says selected extraction spots are trimmed to about 1 to 2 millimeters, with surrounding hair left longer to cover them.
That describes a trimmed strip or window beneath longer hair. It doesn't describe leaving every hair untouched, and the page gives no recipient-area shaving rule.
DHI means Direct Hair Implantation, the implanter-pen approach named in the clinic's services. The haircut question concerns access to the donor hair and what length remains around the treated areas.
Ask the clinic to mark the donor and recipient trimming areas on your photos.
For someone returning to an office or going home without wanting a major haircut change, the location of those trims matters. Ask how your current hair length would cover the proposed donor pattern and whether the front needs any trimming too.
Partial-shave DHI versus fully shaven DHI, no-shave DHI and long-hair FUE
Bangkok Hair Clinic compares three DHI options by donor shaving and graft capacity. Its figures below apply to its own services.
| Bangkok Hair Clinic's comparison label | Donor hair | Recipient trimming specified? | Published graft capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| DHI Shaven | Fully shaved donor area | No | More than 3,000 grafts |
| DHI Partial-Shave | Partially shaved donor area | No | 1,500 to 2,000 grafts |
| Long Hair DHI | No donor-area shaving | No | Fewer than 1,500 grafts |
The shaven row doesn't give an exact maximum. The table also describes shaven work as generally shorter, partial shave as moderate and long-hair work as longest, without giving hours for every option.
FUE, or follicular unit excision, is the name used in several other clinics' services. Hairsmith's NON SHAVEN FUE Hair Transplant page says it uses an implanter pen, while its service menu separately lists Long Hair FUE (DHI). Hairsmith
So the haircut description tells you more than the initials alone. A pen-based procedure can still be sold under an FUE name, and a no-shave label needs a donor-area explanation.
Our Bangkok DHI guide covers the wider technique question. The Bangkok non-shaven FUE comparison covers the other services for keeping more hair.
Bangkok Hair Clinic: Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant and DHI Micrograft Hair Transplant
Bangkok Hair Clinic publishes a typical 1,500 to 2,000 grafts in one session and a 6 to 8 hour appointment for Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant. It says extraction around the unshaven hair is more complex and takes longer than fully shaven DHI. Bangkok Hair Clinic, read 18 October 2026.
Its separate DHI Micrograft Hair Transplant page describes its shaven DHI procedure. If you ask for a DHI quote, specify which of these services you mean. Bangkok Hair Clinic
The partial-shave page says cost must be evaluated individually. It publishes neither a partial-shave price nor a numeric comparison with the shaven service.
For an initial estimate, the DHI Micrograft page says patients can send photos through LINE for a preliminary graft count and price. So ask whether that estimate fits the partial-shave service's stated session range.
We'd resolve the recipient-area plan at the same time. A quote for narrow donor bands still leaves an important part of your haircut undecided if it says nothing about the area receiving grafts.
Our Bangkok Hair Clinic review covers the clinic beyond this haircut choice.
Which Bangkok clinics name a partial-shave or semi-shaven option?
Bangkok Hair Clinic explicitly names a partial-shave DHI service. The other accessible English pages below name different services, including non-shaven FUE and long-hair work.
We compare what clinics publish; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited or had a procedure at these clinics.
| Clinic and source | Exact service name | Partial-shave or semi-shaven named? | What it says about shaving | Published graft count and time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangkok Hair Clinic | Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant | Yes | Narrow donor bands; recipient plan not specified | Typically 1,500 to 2,000; 6 to 8 hours |
| BHI Clinic | Non-Shaven FUE; Long-Hair FUE | No, on its English homepage | No detailed haircut plan on that page | No cap or duration published for this haircut there |
| HairTran | Non-Shaven FUE Hair Transplant | No, on this service page | Says no donor-area shaving | No cap published; HairTran gives 7 to 9 hours (homepage table) and 4 to 8 hours (its non-shaven FUE page) |
| Hairsmith and Hairsmith | NON SHAVEN FUE Hair Transplant; Long Hair FUE (DHI) | No, on these English pages | Non-shaven page says hair at the back isn't shaved; menu gives no long-hair shaving plan | No cap or numeric duration published |
| HE Clinic | Long Hair Transplant | No, on its English long-hair page | Recipient area not shaved; limited donor shaving usually needed, covered by longer hair | Prices below aren't a session ceiling |
| Dr. Top Hair Hospital | Standard FUE / DHI; Long hair · no shaving | No, on its pricing page | Long-hair tier says no shaving; Short hair specifies a shaved donor area | Long-hair starting tier covers one session up to 2,000; no duration published |
| DHI Thailand | DHI hair transplant | No, on its English cost guide | No partial-shave haircut plan specified | No partial-shave cap or duration published |
| Absolute Hair Clinic | Non-shaven FUE hair transplantation Bangkok Thailand | No, on this English page | Whole head need not be shaved; long hair needed for coverage | 500 to 2,500; more time consuming, without hours |
| KESA Hair Clinic | Non-shaven FUE; Long hair FUE | Not by that name; describes Microstrip shaving and says it is not recommended (white scars, limits later transplants) | Non-shaven FUE extracts hair roots without cutting hair short | Non-shaven: no more than 2,000; long hair: generally no more than 1,500; no numeric hours |
| Masterpiece Hospital | DHI Hair Transplant | No, on this English page | No partial-shave, semi-shaven or no-shave plan specified | No cap or duration published for this haircut |
| Dr. Orn Clinic | Long Hair Transplant, on its Thai homepage | No confirmed English partial-shave option | Thai homepage wording doesn't specify an English partial-shave service | English partial-shave cap and duration unconfirmed |
Linked clinic offers read 18 October 2026. Dr. Orn's row rests on an earlier read of its Thai homepage, which returned no readable text on a later fetch.
A page naming no partial-shave option doesn't rule out an individual haircut arrangement. So if you're considering one of those clinics, ask it to name the service and describe the donor and recipient plan in its reply.
What clinics publish on cost, graft limits and appointment length
Partial-shave prices and other published rates
Bangkok Hair Clinic gives no published figure for partial shaven DHI cost. Its individualized assessment is the route to comparing partial-shave and fully shaven work for your case.
The rates below belong to the services named. None is a published Bangkok Hair Clinic partial-shave price.
| Clinic | Published service or price category | Published figure, with our US dollar conversion | Does it price partial shave against fully shaven DHI? |
|---|---|---|---|
| HairTran | Non-Shaven FUE Hair Transplant | THB 100 ($3.02) per graft | No. Its standard FUE starting fee uses a different billing basis |
| Hairsmith | NON SHAVEN FUE Hair Transplant | THB 120 ($3.62) per graft | No numeric comparison on this service page |
| DHI Thailand | General DHI guide, 1,000 to 2,000 grafts | About THB 50,000 to 100,000 ($1,510 to $3,020) | No haircut option attached to the band |
| DHI Thailand | General DHI guide, 2,000 to 4,000 grafts | About THB 100,000 to 200,000 ($3,020 to $6,040) | No haircut option attached to the band |
Prices read 18 October 2026. DHI Thailand's guide was posted on 18 September 2025 and labels these figures 2025 data; these are its general DHI figures, without a partial-shave or fully shaven specification.
Hairsmith says its non-shaven method generally costs more than traditional shaved FUE. HairTran gives a starting fee for standard FUE, so it doesn't supply a matched per-graft comparison with the non-shaven rate above.
BHI's English homepage and the Absolute, KESA and Masterpiece pages listed above publish no price for their relevant haircut option. Dr. Orn's partial-shave pricing remains unconfirmed.
Long-hair prices against shaven work
Dr. Top and HE Clinic publish long-hair and shaven tiers that help price the choice to retain hair. Their long-hair tiers aren't named partial-shave DHI services.
| Clinic and service | Long-hair figure | Shaven comparison | Graft count attached to the comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dr. Top Hair Hospital, Standard FUE / DHI | Long hair · no shaving: from THB 130,000 (about $3,920) | Short hair: from THB 110,000 (about $3,320) | Each starting tier covers up to 2,000 grafts |
| HE Clinic, Long Hair Transplant | THB 119,000 (about $3,590) | Standard shaven implanter-pen transplant: THB 99,000 (about $2,990) | 1,000 grafts |
| HE Clinic, same services | THB 179,000 (about $5,400) | Standard shaven implanter-pen transplant: THB 119,000 (about $3,590) | 2,000 grafts |
The Dr. Top baht prices are what its pricing page showed on 17 October 2026. The same page showed euro prices on 18 October 2026 (EUR 2,890 for short hair, EUR 3,590 for long hair), so the currency shown varies by visit. The HE Clinic baht prices match its pages read on 18 October 2026. Confirm the named haircut tier and inclusions in your quote before paying.
In the baht prices Dr. Top's pricing page showed on 17 October 2026, its two starting tiers differ by THB 20,000, about $600, at the same stated graft allowance.
HE's rows show what each service costs at a stated count. They don't establish the maximum number of grafts the clinic can place in a long-hair session.
Dollars use THB 33.14 = $1 (European Central Bank reference rates, 22 September 2026). Our conversions round totals to the nearest $10 and per-graft figures to cents.

Graft capacity and the length of the day
Bangkok Hair Clinic's partial-shave range stops at 2,000 in its published description. Absolute gives 500 to 2,500 for its non-shaven FUE, while KESA gives a maximum of 2,000 for Non-shaven FUE and generally 1,500 for Long hair FUE.
Each figure belongs to the service beside it. If your proposed count exceeds a clinic's stated range, ask which haircut and session plan the clinic is proposing before comparing its price with another quote.
For appointment length, Bangkok Hair Clinic gives 6 to 8 hours for partial-shave DHI. HairTran gives 7 to 9 hours in its homepage table and 4 to 8 hours on its non-shaven FUE page.
The other pages in the clinic table give no numeric duration for the relevant haircut choice. So ask for the expected finish time for your count before making plans for that evening. Include breaks and any separate appointments in that question.
Who partial-shave work may suit, and the trade-offs clinics state
Bangkok Hair Clinic's description makes surrounding hair length part of the choice: longer hair remains over the trimmed donor bands. If you wear the back short, ask the clinic to assess whether your existing length can cover its proposed trimming pattern.
The proposed graft count matters just as much. Its 1,500 to 2,000 range is a useful question to raise during assessment, especially if your estimate covers several areas of thinning.
Absolute Hair Clinic describes its non-shaven FUE as a smaller session of 500 to 2,500 grafts and says long hair is needed for coverage. It also says the work is more time consuming and more expensive.
Hairsmith makes the same time and cost trade-off for its non-shaven FUE. Neither description gives you a numeric premium for Bangkok Hair Clinic's partial-shave service.
KESA says Non-shaven FUE takes longer than Shave FUE. It describes Long hair FUE as its most expensive method and says it takes approximately three times as long as Shave FUE.
We'd ask a clinic to explain the haircut it recommends after assessing the count you need. Keeping more length has practical value if it fits your work or home situation, but the named service still needs to cover the work proposed.
Plan the days people will see you
Start with the first date when appearance matters to you. That might be your flight home or first morning back at work.
Get the haircut plan and aftercare schedule before choosing your return flight.
Ask the clinic to mark the donor and recipient trimming for your proposed graft count. Then check whether that count fits its partial-shave or no-shave session range, and how long it expects the appointment to take.
Bring your dates into the same conversation. Ask what the clinic wants you to do about washing, styling and follow-up while you still have longer hair around the treated areas.
HairTran recommends a two-week stay, or a minimum of three days when time is limited. That's its travel guidance; it doesn't give you a date when a transplant will be unnoticeable at work.
You can start the assessment before traveling. DHI Thailand says patients can send head photos from different angles or have a video call with a doctor, and Absolute Hair Clinic accepts pictures for assessment and graft estimation.
So use those preliminary discussions to explain the haircut you need to retain. Ask the clinic to confirm any remaining trimming decisions before you commit to dates or pay a deposit.
What Bangkok non-shaven FUE patients report about donor trimming
In a thread started on 20 November 2023, hairman4321 described a 1,500-graft hairline FUE procedure with Dr. Laorwong at Absolute Hair Clinic. In a post dated 5 December 2023, they wrote: "I think they parted the hair, shaved a tiny amount, did extractions, and repeated the process in different areas on the back and sides." Hair Restoration Network
The poster said they could feel rows of short hairs but hadn't seen them because they hadn't had a haircut. It's a useful detail to discuss with a clinic if you want to know whether its proposed donor pattern leaves one window or several small trimmed areas.
A later no-shave FUE account was less positive about the result. On 8 January 2025, yetanotherONE wrote about a 2,000-graft case with Dr. Laorwong: "I don't think of this as a failed transplant. But I also don't think it's a great one." Hair Restoration Network
Their concerns included hair direction, frontal thinness, donor appearance and hairline design. Ask about those parts of the proposed procedure as well as how much hair will be trimmed.
Both accounts describe FUE. We have no verified Bangkok partial-shave DHI patient account to compare alongside them, or a patient-supported date when you could expect to return to work unnoticed.
Questions to ask before you choose a partial-shave DHI
Send the clinic your proposed dates and ask for answers against the haircut you want. A reply should let you match the service name, graft estimate and price to the same plan.
- Which donor areas will you trim, and can you mark them on my photos?
- Will you trim the recipient area, including any hair I use to cover it?
- How long does my surrounding hair need to be for the proposed donor pattern?
- What graft count do you recommend, and what is your session ceiling for this haircut?
- Is the quote for Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant, another DHI service or a named FUE service?
- How do you count the grafts, and what happens to the price if the count changes?
- What is the expected appointment length, and which follow-up visits should I plan around?
- What washing and styling instructions apply to the hair left long, and what do you advise about my travel dates?
If a reply says only "no shave," ask it to specify the two areas separately. Hairman4321's description of small trims shows why the words alone can leave you with an incomplete picture.
To ask AsiaPatient about quotes for your case, include your preferred haircut and travel dates through our contact page.
Frequently asked questions
Is partial-shave DHI the same as no-shave DHI?
Bangkok Hair Clinic distinguishes them by donor shaving.
Its Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant trims small donor bands, while its Long Hair DHI comparison says no donor-area shaving. Ask about the recipient area separately, because those donor descriptions don't settle whether hair at the front will be trimmed. Bangkok Hair Clinic
Does partial-shave DHI mean the recipient area stays unshaved?
Bangkok Hair Clinic's partial-shave page doesn't publish that rule. It describes trimming selected donor spots at the back, so ask the clinic to confirm the recipient-area plan for your case before booking. Bangkok Hair Clinic
How many grafts does Bangkok Hair Clinic state for Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant?
The clinic states typically 1,500 to 2,000 grafts in one session.
Its comparison lists more than 3,000 for DHI Shaven and fewer than 1,500 for Long Hair DHI. Those are Bangkok Hair Clinic's figures; ask it which service fits your assessed graft count. Bangkok Hair Clinic
How long does Bangkok Hair Clinic say Partial Shaven DHI Hair Transplant takes?
It gives 6 to 8 hours and says extracting grafts around unshaven hair takes longer than fully shaven DHI. Ask for an appointment estimate for your own graft count and a separate follow-up schedule before arranging travel. Bangkok Hair Clinic
Do Bangkok clinics publish a partial-shave price premium?
Bangkok Hair Clinic gives no published numeric premium for its named partial-shave service.
HairTran and Hairsmith publish non-shaven FUE rates, while Dr. Top and HE Clinic publish long-hair and shaven tiers. Get a quote naming the haircut and implantation service so you can compare the same work. Bangkok Hair Clinic
