Getting from the airport to your Bangkok hair transplant clinic

A patient traveling for a hair transplant in Bangkok asked how the airport-to-hotel trip worked. "I dont want to be dumped on the streets at 3 am and be lost," u/Basic_Foundation_714 wrote on r/HairTransplants.

With a suitcase, we'd choose Grab and keep the official airport taxi as the backup at Suvarnabhumi. Have Thai cash ready for possible tolls, plus your destination's Thai address and the clinic's nearest BTS Skytrain stop.

Clinics cannot pay to be listed or ranked higher on AsiaPatient.

Before you leave baggage claim: your arrival handoff card

Save these details together on your phone before flying. If the driver doesn't recognize the clinic's name, you can show the address without trying to explain it from memory.

Grab setupDownload the app and add your payment card before landing.
Backup rideAt Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, keep the official metered taxi as your alternative if Grab doesn't work.

Wikivoyage advises carrying the address in Thai because taxi drivers may speak limited English. The clinic landmarks below give you another way to explain where you're going.

Check which airport and which destination

Check your flight booking for Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang before arranging the ride. The Suvarnabhumi pickup details below don't give you a meeting point at Don Mueang.

Also settle where you're going first. If your arrival plan starts at the hotel, save that address separately from the clinic address and use it when requesting the car.

For Don Mueang, check the pickup instructions at that airport. Keep the same destination preparation, but don't follow a Suvarnabhumi gate number because it appeared in a patient's account.

The three ways to get from Suvarnabhumi to your clinic

We'd start with Grab for a patient arriving with a suitcase. The official metered taxi is the backup; consider the Airport Rail Link only after checking the connection to your destination and whether you want to manage it with your bags.

OptionWhen we'd consider itWhat to settle first
GrabYou want to request a car through an app.Finish app setup, enter the destination and follow the pickup instructions for your booking.
Official metered airport taxiGrab requests fail, or you'd prefer the airport's ticketed taxi process.Have Thai cash and ask the driver to use the meter before leaving.
Airport Rail LinkYou can manage your luggage through the onward connection.Check current service information and how you'll reach the hotel or clinic after the rail leg.

Grab: our first choice

A commenter on a hair-transplant patient's thread, u/S4TISF4CTION, described Grab as "their version of Uber" and said you pay a fixed rate through the app on r/HairTransplants. That app-based booking is why we'd try it first with a suitcase.

Set it up before the flight. In a separate r/HairTransplants account, u/Projekt_VArdy advised: "download it before you get to Thailand and setup before you land."

Add the payment card before landing too. Keep some baht available even if you plan to pay through the app.

Where the Grab pickup is, and how to use it

A September 2025 commenter described a Grab pickup point outside the airport at exit 4 (first floor) in r/ThailandTourism. Use the pickup instructions for your booking and the airport signs when you arrive.

Check the pickup point before heading outside with your suitcase.

Before requesting the car, check that you've selected your first stop. If you're going to the hotel, keep the clinic address for your appointment.

Metered taxi from the airport

An official airport taxi gives you another way out if the app isn't working. One hair-transplant patient described taking a ticket, going to the assigned taxi and having the driver put their bag in the car in a r/HairTransplants account.

The ticket doesn't settle how you'll be charged. So ask the driver to use the meter before the ride starts, and keep the ticket.

Where the taxis are and the cash rule

Wikivoyage places ordinary metered taxis on the first floor, one floor below arrivals, and says they take cash in Thai baht. Follow the official taxi signs and use the ticket kiosk.

Have smaller notes available. Drivers might have little change, according to the same guide.

Ask for the meter before you leave

Agree on using the meter before the car leaves.

Ask the driver, "Will you use the meter?"

If the driver refuses the meter, decline the ride before setting off rather than trying to settle the disagreement at your hotel.

The toll the driver may ask you to pay in cash

A highway toll can mean handing over cash during the trip. The patient u/GreatUncleYourself44 described the driver asking whether to take the highway, with tolls paid in cash, in their r/HairTransplants account.

Keep baht where you can reach it from the passenger seat.

Wikivoyage advises keeping the change for another toll gate and getting a paper receipt for each payment. That lets you keep track of what you've handed over during the ride.

Paying through an app isn't a reason to arrive without cash.

Check the price for your own destination

For Grab, check the booking with your arrival airport and full destination entered. For a metered airport taxi, make sure the driver starts the meter.

Keep the arrival ride separate from the procedure quote when planning your spending. Our Bangkok hair transplant cost guide covers the broader treatment budget.

A paid car booked at a counter is another option travelers describe. In r/ThailandTourism, u/GalacticaZero described giving an address at the Bangkok Airport Limousine kiosk in the arrivals hall and paying by credit card.

If you choose a counter service, get the price for your destination and ask what it includes before paying. That is a separate booking decision from taking a metered taxi.

Airport Rail Link (and when it is not the answer)

Check the whole journey before choosing rail. A commenter advising a solo hair-transplant traveler warned that the changes between rail systems could be difficult on a first visit in r/ThailandTourism.

Your luggage matters as much as the first train. In a separate Don Mueang discussion, u/rhaenyra_t4rgaryen wrote, "we cant ride the train because we have large luggages" (r/ThailandTourism).

Choose rail only if you're comfortable handling your bags through the onward connection. If you're landing at Don Mueang, check the rail options for that airport before deciding.

If you want to use rail, check current operating information and the onward connection before the flight. For a late landing, we'd have a car plan ready instead of relying on making a train after immigration and baggage claim.

Naming a place the driver will know

Show the exact Thai address and add the clinic's own BTS landmark.

The station helps explain the area. So keep the clinic address as the destination, unless you want a station drop-off with your suitcase.

ClinicAddress or landmark the clinic publishesWhat to show the driver
HairTranNo. 2 Quant, Soi Sukhumvit 25; BTS Asok Exit 6 and MRT Sukhumvit Exit 2, per HairTran.Save the clinic's Thai address and use Asok as the station landmark. MRT Sukhumvit is its other listed rail landmark.
Absolute Hair ClinicBTS Krung Thon Buri Exit 4, per Absolute Hair Clinic.Save the Thai contact page and its address. Use Krung Thon Buri for this clinic.
HairsmithAsok Tower, Asok Montri Road, Soi Sukhumvit 21, per Hairsmith.Show the building and street address from the Thai contact page.

We compare what clinics publish and what patients report; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited these clinics or had a procedure there.

For a HairTran Clinic appointment, Asok is the clinic's published station reference. Absolute lists Krung Thon Buri, so don't use Asok as a general instruction for every Bangkok clinic.

These clinic pages don't list airport pickup. Ask your clinic directly whether it can arrange your arrival ride before counting on a driver meeting you.

If your first stop is a hotel, use that hotel's address and landmark. The clinic details belong to the later appointment unless you've arranged to go straight there.

If you land late at night

A solo hair-transplant traveler landing at 11:20 PM asked how to reach 42 Grand Residence on r/ThailandTourism. One reply warned that they might clear immigration after midnight and be unable to use rail.

For that kind of arrival, we'd plan on Grab with the official taxi as the backup. Save the hotel's address before flying so you already know where the car should take you.

Keep the clinic contact you booked through available if a delay affects your appointment. In a r/HairTransplants account, u/Redback93 described a delayed flight that made them miss an afternoon pre-op consultation and arrive very early on surgery morning.

If your flight changes, tell the clinic and ask what happens to the appointment. Don't build your arrival plan around getting directly from the plane to a consultation without any delay.

What can go wrong (and the backup)

Grab can fail through cancellations as well as a lack of drivers. In the same airport-transfer discussion, u/Unanimous-411 reported three cancellations and, on an earlier trip, ended up getting a taxi.

So if requests keep failing at Suvarnabhumi, use the official taxi option. Keep your destination address and cash ready so changing the ride doesn't mean starting the arrival plan again.

A traveler in a separate r/ThailandTourism account described a driver who took their ticket, quoted an inflated price and refused the meter. Ask about the meter before departure, and decline the ride if the driver refuses.

A nearby hotel doesn't guarantee an easy app booking either. In another r/ThailandTourism thread, u/Altruistic_Rent6520 reported scarce cars during flooding and drivers rejecting the short trip; their hotel sent a shuttle.

So if you're stuck, contact your hotel and ask what it can arrange. Get an answer before relying on a shuttle, since that account describes one hotel's response.

The ride back to the airport after surgery

Ask your treating clinic when you can travel and whether it can arrange the airport ride. Get its answer before fixing the return plan; online follow-up alone doesn't give you a departure date or a car booking.

Use our Bangkok recovery guide for the days after the procedure. Keep the clinic's instructions alongside your departure details so the return journey fits the care it has planned for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Bangkok airport to hotel or clinic alone?

We'd choose Grab with a suitcase, after setting up the app and payment card before flying. At Suvarnabhumi, keep the official metered taxi as your backup, carry Thai cash for possible tolls, and save the destination's exact Thai address plus its nearest station landmark.

What is the best way to reach my hotel after a late flight?

We'd plan a car ride, with Grab first and the official taxi as the backup at Suvarnabhumi. Check current rail operating information before relying on a train, and have your hotel address ready before you land.

What if I have too much luggage for the train from Don Mueang?

Plan a car ride and check the pickup instructions at Don Mueang. Save your destination's exact Thai address before flying, and use that airport's instructions rather than the Suvarnabhumi pickup details above.

Can I use airport Wi-Fi to book a Grab?

Don't make airport Wi-Fi your only arrival plan. Set up Grab and the payment card before flying, save the address on your phone, and keep the official taxi as your backup at Suvarnabhumi if you can't complete the app booking.
