Hair Transplant in Colombia vs Thailand: Costs, Doctors, Travel and Follow-up
After a hair transplant in Thailand, Hair Restoration Network poster EasyRoader returned to Absolute Hair Clinic daily for washing and laser treatment. In the March 23, 2024 Hair Restoration Network account, the advice was practical: "Definitely stay quite close to the clinic or get a Grab cab back to your accommodation."
A hair transplant in Colombia versus Thailand needs that same attention to the whole trip. For a reader researching hair loss, we'd compare quotes for the same treatment area, with named surgical roles and follow-up arrangements, before choosing Medellin, Bogota or Bangkok.
Ileanovo prices by the area covered. The Bangkok figures below are mostly per graft. So compare what each quote covers before comparing totals.
Who does the work, and what to ask
A clinic can name a doctor without saying who performs each surgical step. Before hair transplant surgery, ask who assesses the donor area, designs the hairline, extracts grafts, makes the incisions where grafts will go, and places them.
Get the division of work in writing before paying a deposit.
Colombia: named clinics, doctor claims and register checks
Ileanovo says the doctor designs the area to be treated. Its procedure description doesn't identify who performs extraction or implantation.
Medellin Hair Transplant says Dr. Santiago Delgado personally directs the assessment, hairline design and procedure with support from the clinical team. Ask which steps he completes personally and which the team completes.
Colombia has separate official checks for the professional and the clinic. ReTHUS is the health-worker register: Colombia's Ministry of Health says its public query lets people verify whether health personnel meet the requirements to practice.
REPS is the official register of those who provide health services. Ask the clinic for the professional's full registered name and the clinic's registered name, then check each in the relevant register.
A clinic's statement about its team gives you names to check. So use the registered names when looking up the doctor and clinic.
Thailand: clinic-by-clinic doctor role
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, ISHRS, says graft harvesting in follicular unit excision (FUE) should be "physician-driven and performed." Ask the clinic to explain who makes the extraction incisions and who removes the grafts afterward.
Patient descriptions can separate those tasks. On December 8, 2023, romeo_gent wrote on Hair Restoration Network that "a team of 6-8 nurses and assistants, led by the doctor, worked on the extraction" at Absolute Hair Clinic. The poster added that they believed "most of the extractions were performed by an experienced nurse, the doctor provided guidance throughout."
The same poster said the doctor made the slits and nurses handled a significant part of implantation. So ask who makes each incision and who handles the grafts afterward.
Ask for those steps to be named separately in your own treatment plan. One patient's account doesn't tell you who will be assigned to your booking.
Cost comparison: what clinics publish and what patients report paying
We compare what clinics publish and patients report; we haven't visited these clinics. Keep each figure's price basis attached when comparing it.
The Ileanovo price and Colombia Hair Transplant broker listing below were read October 18, 2026.
| Price basis | Colombia | Thailand, Bangkok clinics |
|---|---|---|
| Named clinic's published figure | Ileanovo: COP 8,000,000 to COP 16,000,000, priced by area covered | Hairsmith and HairTran publish the different price structures detailed below |
| Patient-reported figures | u/Top_Wallaby4039 reported $2,400 for a first Ileanovo procedure and $1,600 for a second ($ as posted), July 30, 2026 | ฿36 to ฿123 per graft across five clinics, from 31 reports and quotes in 2023 to 2026 |
| What the comparison still needs | Your treatment area, expected graft count and inclusions | Your graft count, technique and inclusions |
Colombia clinic prices and inclusions
Ileanovo publishes COP 8,000,000 to COP 16,000,000 for Colombia. It says its quotations depend on the area to cover, rather than the number of follicular units or hairs extracted.
That range is a clinic-published price guide for its Colombia service. It doesn't establish what a particular hairline or crown case will cost, or a rate per graft.
Using the official Colombian-peso-to-US-dollar rate from the Superintendencia Financiera series, valid October 17 to 19, 2026, the rounded conversions are:
- COP 8,000,000 / 3,174.67 COP per USD = US$2,520
- COP 16,000,000 / 3,174.67 COP per USD = US$5,040
Which area does the quote cover, and how many grafts does Ileanovo expect to use? Ask for both answers in writing. Have medication, aftercare, transfers and accommodation itemized before treating any of them as included.
Medellin Hair Transplant publishes no price on its homepage. It says FUE or direct hair implantation (DHI) is chosen at assessment, so request the technique and its price together.
A separate Colombia Hair Transplant broker listing advertises US$1,500 to US$3,000 for an example of around 2,000 to 2,500 grafts. It says the package includes surgery, pre- and postoperative care, accommodations and transfers.
The business says it works with multiple clinics in Bogota, Medellin and Cali. So obtain the named clinic's treatment plan and package terms before comparing that listing with a direct clinic quote.
Thailand clinic prices and inclusions
The Hairsmith and HairTran prices below were read September 23, 2026.
The Bangkok patient-reported range covers different clinics and years. Most reports at Absolute, Bangkok Hair Clinic and Hairsmith fall at ฿65 to ฿90 per graft.
For published clinic figures, Hairsmith gives a per-graft schedule while HairTran gives a starting total:
| Clinic | Published price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Hairsmith | ฿80 per graft | Page labels this 2025 pricing |
| Hairsmith, non-shaven FUE | ฿120 per graft | A separate rate for the non-shaven procedure |
| HairTran | From ฿102,000 | Starting price, rather than a total for your case |
Hairsmith's linked cost page also says it includes 12 months of hair-growth medication. Have the clinic confirm what medication it proposes for you and what the quoted fee covers.
Our Thailand hair transplant cost guide has the wider clinic comparison. Use the published figures to choose which quotes to request, then compare the written totals for your own case.
Graft count, technique and why two quotes can differ
For an area-based quote, ask the clinic to identify the area and the expected graft count. For a per-graft quote, ask whether the count means follicular units or individual hairs, and how the final count affects payment.
Ileanovo's area-based range can't be turned into a per-graft rate without assigning it a graft count the clinic hasn't supplied. A smaller total also needs checking against whether both clinics propose treating the same area.
Technique names need the same care. Ileanovo says it uses DHI for implantation, while Medellin Hair Transplant says the choice of FUE or DHI follows assessment.
HairTran says it uses an implanter pen for every patient at no additional cost, read September 27, 2026. Ask how the proposed extraction and placement methods appear in the fee before assuming a pen means an extra charge.
Make the two quotes comparable before you compare the totals
Use this card when you have a Colombian clinic and a Bangkok clinic in mind. Send both the same description of the area you want assessed.
| Detail to settle | Colombia quote | Thailand quote |
|---|---|---|
| What the price buys | For Ileanovo, name the area covered and ask for the expected graft count | For a per-graft quote, record the expected count and the rule for any change |
| What a graft means | Ask whether the number describes follicular units or individual hairs | Ask the same question using the same wording |
| Technique | Have the clinic name the extraction and implantation methods | Have the clinic specify the procedure and whether shaving is planned |
| People doing the work | Request names and roles for assessment, design, extraction, incisions and placement | Request the same division of work for your booking |
| Included care and travel | Ask which medication, clinic visits, hotel nights and transfers are included | Itemize the same costs, including anything you arrange yourself |
| Time away | Price your actual itinerary and the nights required by the clinic's plan | Use the same home airport and include the clinic's planned checks |
| Contact after returning home | Ask which channel reaches the clinical team, who answers and how an in-person review would work | Obtain the same answers before committing to travel |
The final row matters even if the package includes aftercare. Ask the clinic to separate care during your stay from the help available once you're back in the US or Canada.
Payment planning
Get the payment currency and total payable in writing, alongside the deposit and cancellation terms. Keep those terms with the treatment plan so you can see what you're committing to.
Our Thailand payment and financing guide covers the payment questions in more detail. Ask the Colombian clinic for its own terms rather than assuming the same arrangements apply.
A worked trip cost from one patient's report
On July 30, 2026, r/HairTransplants poster u/Top_Wallaby4039 reported $2,400 for a first Ileanovo procedure in Bogota, a $600 round-trip ticket, and about $300 for a week to 10 days of lodging. The post gives these figures in dollars without naming a currency or a departure city, and it doesn't say which trip the ticket was for. The poster stayed with family, so the lodging amount was the poster's estimate, not a booking quote.
Colombia: Miami, New York, Los Angeles or Toronto to Medellin or Bogota
Start with the clinic's actual location and the dates it wants you present. Ileanovo lists both Bogota and Medellin, so have the clinic confirm which location your quote covers before pricing the trip.
Use an airline itinerary for your dates and home airport. Medical travel can involve more than the procedure date, so include the full journey and the clinic's requested stay when working out days away from home.
Ask which visits happen before departure and which can happen remotely. A package's accommodation allowance needs to cover the schedule the clinic gives you; any extra nights belong in your budget.
Thailand: the same origin-city method for Bangkok
Use the same home airport when pricing Bangkok. Keep the procedure fee separate from flights and lodging unless the written quote explicitly bundles them.
Ask the clinic to put its planned appointments and departure advice alongside the procedure date. Our guide to how long to stay in Thailand covers the stay-planning questions.
Don't turn another patient's stay into your return-flight date. EasyRoader's daily clinic visits describe that patient's arrangements, so ask your clinic what it expects for your procedure.
Entry, language and follow-up from home
Entry rules for US and Canadian passports
For Colombia, the US State Department says US citizens don't need a Colombian visa for tourism or business stays of 90 days or less. The Government of Canada says Canadian regular-passport holders don't need a tourist visa for stays of up to 90 days, and their passport must be valid for the stay.
Migracion Colombia describes CheckMig as online preregistration of trip information to speed immigration control. It gives a completion window of 72 hours to one hour before travel.
For Thailand, US and Canadian passport holders appear on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 60-country list for a 30-day tourism exemption, effective September 15, 2026. The ministry says the exemption applies to tourism purposes only and travelers entering for other purposes must refer to the relevant visa category.
That tourism exemption doesn't establish a medical-visa length. Confirm the category appropriate to your planned treatment before booking.
Official travel advice for Colombia
The US State Department lists Colombia as "Level 3 - Reconsider travel." Its advisory cites crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping and natural disasters.
The Government of Canada says: "Exercise a high degree of caution in Colombia due to high levels of crime."
Read the government's advice for your itinerary when arranging travel. These advisories address travel conditions; they don't rate the clinical work of the named clinics.
Language before, during and after the procedure
Medellin Hair Transplant says it serves patients in Spanish and English and can carry out the initial assessment virtually. That gives an English-speaking reader a stated way to begin a consultation before traveling.
Ask who will explain the treatment plan and who will answer clinical questions afterward. Put that person's role and contact channel in the final row of your quote-comparison card.
For Bangkok, get the same answers from your chosen clinic. Country choice alone won't tell you who will respond to a message after you return home.
Flying home and remote follow-up
Have each clinic separate its in-person appointment schedule from its post-return contact arrangements. Ask who reviews a concern, how you reach them, and what happens if they want you examined in person.
The Thailand follow-up guide covers those questions in more detail. If access to an in-person review is a priority, settle that arrangement before choosing either destination.
What patients who went to Colombia and Thailand say
Colombia patient accounts
On July 30, 2026, r/HairTransplants poster u/Top_Wallaby4039 reported a first Ileanovo procedure at $2,400 and a second at $1,600 ($ as posted). This is one patient's account, not a clinic-published price.
For a clinic you're considering, look for an account that names the location and doctor, gives the procedure date, and describes contact after departure. Ask the clinic the same practical questions even when its testimonials are positive.
Thailand patient accounts
Shaba wrote on May 7, 2025, about HairTran on Hair Restoration Network: "Dr. Patty herself made all the incisions."
At DHT Clinic, eladnm wrote on August 8, 2024: "I was the only patient at the clinic, surrounded by two young doctors, nurses, and of course, Dr. Pathomvanich himself." That Hair Restoration Network account describes the people present on one patient's procedure day.
EasyRoader's Absolute account, posted March 23, 2024, says the poster stayed another four days and returned daily for washing and laser treatment. The practical detail is the repeated journey between accommodation and clinic.
We'd use these accounts to ask about the team assigned to our procedure and the appointments before departure. A clinic's written plan lets you budget for your own stay.
Colombia and Thailand at a glance
| Decision | Colombia | Thailand |
|---|---|---|
| Price structure | Ileanovo quotes by area covered; Medellin Hair Transplant's homepage has no price | Bangkok examples include per-graft rates and starting totals |
| Named clinical roles | Ileanovo names doctor-led design; Medellin Hair Transplant names Dr. Delgado as directing the procedure | The patient accounts describe shared work with different tasks assigned to doctors and staff |
| Registration questions | Check the professional in ReTHUS and the clinic in REPS | Request the named doctor's credentials and written role allocation |
| English consultation | Medellin Hair Transplant states Spanish and English service and virtual initial assessment | Confirm the arrangements with your chosen clinic |
| Travel budget | Price the clinic location, itinerary and requested stay | Price Bangkok from the same home airport with the clinic's requested stay |
| Follow-up | Obtain the named clinical contact and arrangements for an in-person review | Obtain the same details, including which checks happen before departure |
Who each option suits
Colombia may suit you if an area-based quote covers the work you want and the clinic answers the surgical-role and follow-up questions. Ileanovo's published range gives you a starting budget, while Medellin Hair Transplant offers a stated English-language virtual assessment.
Thailand may suit you if you want to compare named clinics on a per-graft basis. Hairsmith's published standard and non-shaven rates also let you request separate quotes for those options.
For a larger graft count, ask each clinic to quote the same treatment area and explain the expected count. Ileanovo's price basis and a Bangkok per-graft rate won't answer that comparison without a personal assessment.
If a particular technique matters to you, have the clinic name it in the plan and explain who performs each step. So compare the proposed methods within the clinic quotes.
If your time off is limited, compare the actual itineraries and appointment schedules before choosing. If you need ready access to in-person follow-up, ask how it would work after returning home before paying either clinic.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a hair transplant in Colombia cost?
Ileanovo publishes COP 8,000,000 to COP 16,000,000, based on the area to cover. The dated price section above gives the currency arithmetic and distinguishes this clinic figure from a broker package listing. Ask for a personal quote naming the treatment area, expected graft count and inclusions.
Does Dr. Delgado personally perform every step?
The Medellin Hair Transplant FAQ asks whether Dr. Santiago Delgado personally performs each procedure and answers "Sí" (yes). It then says he personally directs assessment, hairline design and the procedure with clinical-team support. Its wording doesn't identify who completes each extraction or implantation step. Ask for those roles to be named in your treatment plan.
How can I check a Colombian doctor's credentials?
Use ReTHUS for the health professional and REPS for the clinic. Ask for the registered names so you can check the correct entries. A clinic's own description of its team doesn't confirm a register entry.
Who should make the extraction and recipient-site incisions?
The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, ABHRS, calls creating extraction incisions "a non-delegable act" and says "the creation of incisions for placement of grafts is also non-delegable." Its ethics standard for its Diplomates also allows another licensed medical practitioner to make extraction incisions where local rules permit. This is the board's standard, not a statement of Thai or Colombian law.
Who will place the grafts?
Ask your clinic to identify the person or team assigned to placement. The Thailand accounts above describe doctors and staff taking different roles, so having a named surgeon doesn't answer every staffing question. Obtain a separate answer for extraction incisions, graft removal, recipient-site incisions and placement.
