Can I Get My Money Back If I Change My Mind? (Thailand Hair Transplant Deposit Refund)

One r/HairTransplants poster wrote: "I made an emotional decision and booked a date for a transplant... Now I'm having second thoughts about the whole thing." They wanted to know whether the clinic would return their deposit.

Our hair transplant guide covers the wider decision. For a Thailand hair transplant refund, check your clinic's written cancellation deadline, which payments it covers, and any deductions: changing your mind doesn't itself establish that you'll get your money back.

In that r/HairTransplants discussion, one commenter suggested asking for the deposit back, then asking about postponement if the answer was no. Promises about results are a separate matter from canceling because you've changed your mind.

The short answer: it depends on the clinic and how early you cancel

Start with the terms attached to your payment. Find the cancellation clause and check whether it covers the deposit, any prepaid balance, or both.

If you're already booked and want to cancel, ask the clinic where to send written notice. State that you want to cancel, request the refundable amount, and ask it to acknowledge receipt.

We would keep that exchange with the payment receipt and booking confirmation. You want a record of what you requested and when the clinic received it.

Refundable vs non-refundable deposits

Ask the clinic to describe your payment explicitly as refundable, conditionally refundable, or non-refundable. A refundable deposit might still be subject to deductions.

So ask what conditions and deductions apply before treating "refundable" as a promise to return the full amount.

If the terms say "non-refundable," ask whether postponement is available and what happens to the money already paid. Don't assume that a later appointment is included simply because the clinic accepts date changes.

The notice window is what actually decides

Where a policy makes refunds conditional on notice, the deadline affects whether your request meets that condition. Ask the clinic to give you the last cancellation date and time for your appointment.

A notice window doesn't answer every part of the refund question. You still need to know which payment is covered, what can be deducted, and where the cancellation must be sent.

What a deposit actually is (and how it differs from the full price)

A deposit is an advance payment toward a booking. Ultima Hair Center says, "A small deposit will then reserve your treatment date" (read 24 October 2026).

That statement doesn't give an amount or cancellation deadline. So ask for both before sending money to reserve a date.

A patient describing a Hairsmith booking on note.com reported a deposit followed by a payment on the procedure day. The writer said the remaining balance could be paid by credit card.

That staged payment leaves two amounts to distinguish: what you've already paid and what would be due if the procedure goes ahead. Ask for cancellation terms covering both, especially if you're considering paying the balance early.

Flat deposit vs percentage deposit

One r/HairTransplants poster reported paying a fixed deposit through a payment link to secure a Bangkok Hair Clinic date. Another r/HairTransplants patient described a percentage deposit and payment of the remaining balance at the clinic.

Neither account says whether that deposit could be refunded. So ask for the amount and the cancellation terms together, whether your quote uses a fixed sum or a percentage.

Ask how the deposit and any fees appear on your bill

Ask whether the deposit comes off the procedure balance and whether any separate fee is included in the payment request. Have the clinic identify any non-refundable portion in writing.

If you've paid the full procedure price, ask for a breakdown of how cancellation affects the deposit and the rest. A deposit-refund clause alone doesn't answer whether the prepaid balance comes back.

Don't assume that losing the deposit is the maximum possible loss. Ask the clinic to state the amount it would retain and whether it says anything further would be due.

What Thai clinics publish about refunds

Thailand Hair Transplant Center publishes a cancellation-notice requirement. The other pages below leave the reader needing a direct answer about refund terms.

We compare what clinics publish and have not visited these clinics.

Clinic and source pageWhat the page says about cancellationWhat to ask before paying
Thailand Hair Transplant CenterA deposit refund requires 15 days' cancellation notice. Bank-transfer charges or other associated fees may be deducted. Read 24 October 2026.Where must notice be sent, what is the deadline for my date, and how are deductions calculated?
HairTranThe English FAQ does not publish refund or cancellation terms. Can you send the terms that apply to my payment before I pay?
Bangkok Hair ClinicThe English FAQ does not publish refund or cancellation terms.Which payments would you return if I cancel, and by what deadline?
HairsmithThe English cost page does not publish refund or cancellation terms. How do your terms treat the deposit and any prepaid balance?

The missing terms on those pages don't tell you whether the clinic will refund your payment. So request the policy directly, then ask the clinic to confirm that it applies to your booking.

At Thailand Hair Transplant Center, the published wording leaves the notice channel unstated. Get the accepted address or channel in writing rather than assuming your usual chat is enough.

How the cancellation window works

Turn a notice period into a deadline you can use. Ask the clinic to write the cutoff date and time against your scheduled procedure, including the time zone.

Also ask whether notice has to be received by that cutoff. If you're communicating from overseas, keep the clinic's answer with your booking details so you aren't relying on your own interpretation of the date.

Ask the clinic to acknowledge your cancellation in writing.

Save the message you sent and the reply. If the acknowledgement doesn't answer the money question, ask separately for the amount to be returned and any deductions.

What "less than the notice window" means in practice

Canceling the day before would fall outside Thailand Hair Transplant Center's published notice period shown above. If you've missed your clinic's deadline, ask what it will do with the money already paid.

Ask about a missed appointment separately, too. Don't assume that not attending is treated the same as giving written cancellation notice.

Say whether you are canceling or asking to change the date. Have the clinic confirm which request it has accepted and how that affects your deposit.

Ask about rescheduling if you still want the procedure

In the r/HairTransplants change-of-mind thread, one commenter suggested asking to wait six months before finalizing a date. The alternative was to ask for the deposit back, then request postponement if the clinic refused.

If you still want surgery at that clinic, ask whether your existing deposit can count toward a later appointment. Get any date-change fee and deadline in the reply before agreeing to move it.

Ask what happens if you later cancel the new date. You need to know whether accepting a postponement changes the terms for the payment you've already made.

If you're unsure about having the procedure at all, say that clearly. A later appointment only helps if you want more time to decide or prepare.

Before you pay: map each cancellation separately

A Hair To Freedom writer describing their Thailand trip listed flights, hotel, food, transport, and recovery time separately from the clinic payment. When working out what you could recover, list your clinic and travel payments separately too.

Use only the rows below that apply to your trip. For each payment, record the payee (who receives the money), the amount paid, and the policy URL or written terms.

Then add the cancellation deadline, accepted notice method, and what happens to that payment on cancellation. Record whether any part is credited to the procedure balance.

Payment itemWhat to establish for that payment
Clinic deposit and any prepaid balanceWho receives each amount? Which part comes off the procedure price? What refund terms apply to each part?
Package or coordinator charge, if you use oneWho takes the payment? What does it cover? Whose written cancellation terms apply to each included item?
Flights, if booked separatelyWho took payment, where are the ticket's cancellation terms, and how must notice be given?
Hotel, if booked separatelyWho received the money, what deadline applies, and what amount would be returned or retained?
Transfers, if paid separatelyWho took payment, how do you cancel, and what happens to the amount paid?

For a package, ask for the same detail even when you've made one payment. You need the seller to explain which items are included and how cancellation affects each one.

DHI Thailand says it can help arrange accommodation and invites patients to secure a package with an advance deposit (read 24 October 2026). The page doesn't identify whether that deposit includes accommodation or transfers, who receives travel payments, or the cancellation terms for those arrangements.

Before paying for that kind of booking, ask for the inclusions and refund terms together. If you booked travel independently, check those bookings separately rather than assuming a clinic cancellation also cancels the trip.

Get it in writing before you pay

A commenter in the r/HairTransplants deposit discussion advised: "Make sure to get all printed documentation regarding this issue so you fully understand what will happen if you end up scheduling or cancelling a procedure, and more so when you're dealing internationally."

We would ask for the terms before paying, then save them with the quote. If the reply only says the deposit secures your date, follow up on what happens if you cancel.

The exact questions to ask

Send these questions with the payment request you're checking:

1. Is this payment a deposit, a non-refundable fee, or both? 2. Which part is credited to my procedure balance? 3. What exact cancellation date and time apply to my appointment? 4. What happens to each payment if I cancel after that deadline or don't attend? 5. Can I move the date instead, and what terms or charges apply? 6. Which address or channel must receive my notice, and will you confirm receipt? 7. What deductions, including transfer charges, can you take from a refund? 8. If travel or accommodation is included, who receives each payment and whose cancellation terms apply?

If you've already paid more than the deposit, make that clear in the request. Ask the clinic to address the full amount paid rather than replying only about the booking deposit.

Our hair transplant consultation questions can help with the procedure questions you want answered before committing. Keep the written payment terms alongside those answers.

Itemized costs

Ask the clinic to show the deposit, any separate fee, the amount already paid, and the balance still due. Request the amount it would retain if you canceled under the terms being offered.

Check the payee with the clinic before sending money, and keep the receipt with its confirmation. If the payment request and quote describe the money differently, ask the clinic to explain the difference in writing.

What real patients say when they change their mind

The "emotional decision" scenario

The poster in the opening had booked a date and then reconsidered. Another commenter in the same r/HairTransplants thread wrote: "If you are not 100% sure about the operation and the surgeon, you should not do it."

If you're reconsidering, write down what has changed since you booked. Ask the clinic to address that concern separately from the question of whether it will return your money.

Our guide to whether a hair transplant is worth it covers the wider decision. Don't use the deposit already paid as your only reason to keep the appointment.

Deposit deadlines

A prospective patient in an r/tressless discussion described HairTran giving a deposit deadline while Bangkok Hair Clinic seemed informative. They were comparing how the clinics answered before committing.

If you're given a payment deadline, ask for the cancellation terms before it expires. If the reply leaves the refund question unanswered, ask again before paying to secure the date.

If the clinic says no, what can you do?

Ask the clinic to identify the term it is applying and show how much it intends to retain. Include your receipt and the written terms you received so it can address your payment.

You can ask whether it will reconsider, and whether postponement is available if you still want the procedure. The r/HairTransplants discussion suggests making that request.

A cancellation request can be short:

> I want to cancel my hair transplant appointment. Please confirm receipt and explain which part of my payment you will refund under my booking terms. > > Please identify any deduction and the term that allows it. If you won't return the deposit, please explain whether it can be used for a later appointment and what conditions would apply.

Use the postponement paragraph only if you want that option. Attach your booking confirmation so the clinic can identify the appointment without guessing.

If your doubts concern the procedure, take those questions back to the clinician before agreeing to another date. Our guide to hair transplant risks can help you prepare that discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Is a deposit normal for a Thailand hair transplant?

Some Thai clinics use deposits to reserve dates, and patients describe paying them before the remaining procedure balance. Ask for the terms before paying: a request for a deposit doesn't tell you whether it is refundable or what happens if you cancel.

Can I cancel the day before and still get my money back?

Don't count on it without written confirmation from your clinic. A day-before cancellation falls outside the published notice window in the clinic table above. Ask how your clinic treats a late cancellation and request the refundable amount and deductions in writing.

Do I lose the whole fee or just the deposit?

Check the terms for every amount you've paid. If you've prepaid the full procedure price, ask how cancellation affects both the deposit and the remaining portion. Get the amount the clinic would retain in writing, including whether it says anything further would be due.

Can I get my money back if I change my mind after I book?

You may be able to, if your payment meets the clinic's refund conditions. Check the cancellation deadline and deductions, send notice through the accepted channel, and request acknowledgement. If the clinic refuses, ask which term it is applying and whether postponement is available.

Is paying a deposit a scam?

Patient accounts from Thailand describe deposits as part of booking, so the request alone doesn't establish a scam. Ask the clinic to confirm the payee, provide written cancellation terms, and explain how it will acknowledge payment and confirm the appointment. Keep the receipt with those answers.
