JCI Accredited Hair Transplant in Thailand: Checking the Facility and the Site

In a July 2026 post, one r/HairTransplants poster described Bangkok Hair Clinic as "located about 30 mins from BKK airport in a medical precinct of Phrom Phong - well signed and really easy to find."

That covers the building you can see from the street. For a hair transplant in Thailand, the facility question has two parts: is the place accredited, and is your surgery happening there?

Ask the clinic for the full name and street address of the facility where you'll be operated on, down to the building and floor.

Then search that exact name on JCI's own list and note which program it sits under. A clinic brand, its partner hospital and the room where the surgery happens are not always the same organization. Sometimes they are.

What to Check Before You Choose a Hair Transplant Clinic in Thailand

Two things get checked, in this order. First the facility where the operation happens, then the doctor who does it.

This page covers the facility. Licenses and clinic registration have their own guide on how to verify a Thai doctor's license.

JCI Accreditation, and How to Check It on JCI's Own List

JCI stands for Joint Commission International. It accredits hospitals and other healthcare organizations, and it publishes JCI's list of accredited organizations, which you can filter by country.

Each entry shows an organization's name, a JCI ID number, its city, the program it's accredited under and a date. So accreditation belongs to one named organization under one named program, not to a clinic brand.

When we read JCI's list on 27 September 2026, Thailand had 68 JCI-accredited hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Of those, 55 were under JCI's Hospital Program and 13 under its Ambulatory Care, Long Term Care and Home Care programs.

As of 27 September 2026, that was the most in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia next at 25. The list changes, so read the live version before you rely on any count.

The program matters as much as the name.

Search the list for the exact name of the facility your clinic gives you, not the clinic's brand name.

Write down the program and the date you see. If the name you were given doesn't appear, ask the clinic which organization on the list it means.

Accurate Advertising of Accreditation: JCI Standard APR.07.00

JCI's hospital standards, 8th Edition include a requirement, APR.07.00, "focused on accurate advertising of JCI accreditation."

A badge on a clinic's website is still a claim made by the clinic. It may well be true. So check it on the list.

Thailand's National Hospital Accreditation

Thailand also accredits hospitals itself. The Healthcare Accreditation Institute is a Thai public organization that accredits healthcare facilities.

Samitivej's Thai-language About page lists, translated from Thai, "Hospital accreditation from the Hospital Accreditation Board of Thailand and JCI accreditation." So a Thai hospital may cite either one, or both.

If a facility cites Thai hospital accreditation (HA, for short), ask it for the details and the date of that accreditation.

Thai Medical Council Registration and Surgeon Credentials

Accreditation is about the facility. The doctor is a separate check: the Medical Council of Thailand keeps a public register at checkmd.tmc.or.th, searchable by first name and surname in Thai or English.

Our license guide, linked above, walks through that search.

Who Actually Does the Work

The ISHRS says graft harvesting should be "physician-driven and performed," and warns of "the problematic rise today of unlicensed technicians (the so-called black market)." It also says grafts are placed "most often by the trained staff."

The ABHRS calls making the extraction incisions "a non-delegable act, and must be performed by the physician of record." It adds that "the creation of incisions for placement of grafts is also non-delegable."

So under that standard the incisions are a doctor's job. Placing the grafts is not on that list.

Ask the clinic: "Which steps will the surgeon do, and which will staff do?"

What Accreditation Covers and What It Doesn't

JCI's Accreditation Standards for Hospitals, 8th Edition, took effect on 1 January 2025. Its chapters include International Patient Safety Goals, Anesthesia and Surgical Care, Prevention and Control of Infections, Quality and Patient Safety, and Staff Qualifications and Education.

Under Quality and Patient Safety, standard QPS.03.04 requires data collection and analysis when adverse events occur. To be eligible, a hospital must have services for emergency needs "24 hours per day, 7 days per week."

Those are Hospital Program standards. An organization under the Ambulatory Care Program is assessed against a different set, which this page doesn't describe. So the program tells you which standards a facility was assessed against.

Our view of what the list leaves out: it names organizations, not surgeons. It won't tell you who your doctor is, whether that doctor is licensed, or how the work is split between doctor and staff.

Accreditation also applies to the organization on the list, at its listed location. A clinic that consults you in one building and operates in another gives you two places to check. Sometimes more.

Is the Procedure at the Advertised Site?

The second half of the question is about place. A clinic, a partner hospital and the operating room can be three different things, and your booking should say which one you're in. Or they can all be one.

Hospital-Based vs Standalone Clinics

In Thailand, hair transplants are sold by hospitals with their own hair service and by standalone hair clinics. The model changes what you check.

With a hospital, you look for that hospital's entry on JCI's list. With a standalone clinic, you ask where the surgery takes place and whether that facility holds any accreditation.

When a Hospital Hair Center Is a Partnership on Two Campuses

Samitivej's Hair Restoration Medical Center page says "Bioscor International has partnered with Samitivej Hospital to open its 24th branch in Thailand." The same page lists two locations: "SAMITIVEJ SUKHUMVIT Building 2, 6th Floor" and "SAMITIVEJ SRINAKARIN Building A, 4th Floor."

Those are two hospital campuses.

Samitivej's Thai About page describes, translated from Thai, a network that grew from the main Sukhumvit hospital by six more. Phyathai, another hospital brand, lists six hospitals on its Thai home page, five in Bangkok and one in Sri Racha.

The center's page lists "Surgical hair transplant" and "Robot hair transplant" among its services. It also shows how one center name, run with an outside partner, can sit on two campuses of one hospital brand.

A hospital brand name alone doesn't tell you which building you'll be in.

A hospital brand isn't proof of a hair transplant service either. A medical tourism listing site showed a hair transplant price for Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and when we asked, the hospital replied on 26 September 2026 that "our hospital does not provide hair transplant surgery services." So confirm the service with the hospital itself.

A Hospital That Advertises JCI Accreditation and Sells Its Own Hair Transplant

Kamol Cosmetic Hospital's hair transplant page says "Hospital-level safety: A JCI-accredited hospital." Its About page says "We are accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI)" and that the hospital is "located in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand."

Here the hospital's hair page and its JCI claim name the same hospital.

That's the simplest case. Search its name on JCI's live list, ask for the street address, and ask whether the operating room is in that hospital building.

Standalone Clinics That Publish Surgeon Credentials

HairTran's English home page describes its surgeon as "a physician certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), and licensed by the Thai Medical Council (V.31632)." It describes FUE as outpatient surgery: "Most patients are able to return home the same day, with no hospital stay required".

Bangkok Hair Clinic's Thai home page says, translated from Thai, that "every step is carried out in a clean medical facility with modern equipment."

HairTran's English home page uses the phrase "JCI-accredited clinic standards" in a table about Thailand, without naming the facility. Bangkok Hair Clinic's Thai home page linked here doesn't claim facility accreditation. That doesn't show either clinic lacks one. It means the facility question is yours to ask.

We compare what clinics and hospitals publish; nobody at AsiaPatient has visited these clinics or had a procedure at them.

What to Ask the Clinic to Confirm the Exact Site

These questions are ours. Send them in writing before you pay a deposit, so the answers sit in the same thread as your quote.

1. What is the full name of the facility where my surgery happens, and its street address, building and floor? 2. Is that the same facility shown on your website? If you work with a partner hospital, which one? 3. Is that facility on JCI's list, and under which program? Does it hold Thai HA accreditation? 4. Which steps will the surgeon do, and which will staff do?

Then search the facility name on JCI's list yourself. If the answer to the first question changes later, ask why before you travel for treatment.

How Patients Confirm the Site and the Surgeon

Some patients writing about Thai clinics on Reddit plan their stay around the clinic. Accreditation doesn't come up in the posts quoted here.

Patients Describing the Exact Location

The Bangkok Hair Clinic patient from the opening stayed "within walking distance from clinic (~750m /10mins)." They also wrote: "Dr Jate showed me around and I was introduced to all the nurses and assistants present. I'd say there were about 10 people in the room all up."

A DHT Clinic patient on r/HairTransplants wrote in November 2024: "I'm staying at a Craftsman hotel, which is only 700m away (10 min walk) from the clinic." They had "a pre-op consultation one day prior to surgery."

A HairTran patient wrote in October 2024: "I booked and Airbnb around the Clinic for around 14 days that I can easily go back and let them wash and check my hair, which I found was a good idea."

Patients Asking Who Operates and How Many Cases a Day

One Reddit poster, booked at a busy Bangkok clinic in November 2024, wrote: "they also told me my transplant would be at 4pm and I came to understand that other 2 people were going to be with me... at that point I had to cancel".

A reply in the same thread said: "I share your concerns and I would also avoid a clinic where more than two patients a day are done by a doctor." That commenter also wrote: "The graft placement was done by the technicians, since two people worked on me at the same time."

Others disagreed. One said it was just busy, with two doctors and their staff at full capacity, and gave it credit for still running an effective operation.

In a crosspost of that thread, another wrote that the doctor "did 100% of the extractions and assisted with the vast majority of the implants with only a couple of absences during the day."

These accounts contradict each other, and each is one person's experience. The ISHRS says placement is done "most often by the trained staff," so the aim is to know the plan in advance, not to rule staff out.

Ask how many procedures your doctor has scheduled that day, and who does each step.

Infection After Surgery and Why Facility Hygiene Comes Up

A patient on r/Hairtransplant who developed an infection after surgery in Thailand wrote in October 2024: "It's called Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and to my understanding it generally contracted in medical facilities." The same poster later added that "it is surgery and sometimes surgery have risks and complications."

A 2026 review in Frontiers in Medicine says "Postoperative infection after FUE is rare, with most studies reporting an incidence below 1%, although published rates vary across series." Rare isn't never.

Prevention and Control of Infections is one of the chapters in JCI's hospital standards. For warning signs and aftercare questions, see our guide on whether a hair transplant is safe in Thailand.

Warning Signs and Red Flags

The four signs below are our own reading of the cases on this page. None of them proves a problem on its own.

The clinic doesn't name the surgeon.

A 2023 r/HairTransplants post put it this way: "If a clinic doesn't list the surgeon name on their website, then you are not going to a clinic, you are going to a marketing company who hires whatever doctor is available to contract on that day including aspiring ones that will treat you as on the job training."

The facility in your quote isn't on JCI's list, or sits under a different program than the clinic implies.

A listing site shows a service the hospital says it doesn't offer.

The Bangkok Hospital Phuket reply above is one case. It may not be common.

Nobody can give you a street address, building and floor for the operating room.

If the clinic can't say where the surgery happens, you have nothing to check. So ask again, in writing.

Words You Will Hear, in Plain English

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a hair transplant clinic in Thailand JCI accredited?

JCI accredits organizations, not clinic brands. Ask the clinic for the full name of the facility where your surgery happens, then search that name on JCI's own list.

Note the program and the date shown. When we read the list on 27 September 2026, Thailand had 68 JCI-accredited hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Check the live list rather than a badge on a website.

Does JCI accreditation mean my surgeon is qualified?

No. JCI's list names organizations, not surgeons.

A doctor's license is a separate check on the Thai Medical Council register, which our license guide walks through. Ask the clinic which steps the surgeon will do and which steps staff will do.

What is the difference between the Hospital Program and the Ambulatory Care Program?

They are separate JCI programs with separate standards. The Hospital Program standards include chapters on surgical care and infection control, and require services for emergency needs around the clock.

What should I ask a clinic that works with a partner hospital?

Ask for the partner's full name and its street address, down to the building and floor. Ask whether that facility is on JCI's list and under which program, and whether it is the same place shown on the clinic's website. Get the answers in writing before you pay a deposit, then check the name on the list yourself.

Could I pick up an infection at the facility?

One patient who had an infection after surgery in Thailand wrote: "to my understanding it generally contracted in medical facilities." A 2026 review says infection after FUE is rare, with most studies reporting an incidence below 1%. Prevention and control of infections is a chapter in JCI's hospital standards.
