Transgender Hair Transplant in Thailand: Scalp Hair Guide for Trans Women and Trans Men

A trans woman described her Bangkok Hair Clinic consultation on r/Transgender_Surgeries: “I pushed to have it really rounded.” She described discussing density and receiving a revised graft estimate.

Our hair transplant guide covers the wider decision. A transgender hair transplant can address a more feminine scalp hairline, but the shape needs individual assessment, as the patient's account on r/Transgender_Surgeries illustrates.

This guide covers scalp hair only; beard, facial-hair and body-hair transplants are outside its scope. Your own surgeon and prescribing doctor should guide the medical decisions.

What is a transgender hair transplant?

Here, the term means transplanting scalp hair follicles to change the hairline, address thinning or add density in a way that supports your goals. The consultation starts with what you want to change about your hair.

A rounder outline may be the priority for one person. Another may want a more defined masculine hairline or a gender-neutral shape; Mediren describes these different goals within its LGBTQ+ hair-transplant service, read 26 October 2026.

Tell the surgeon which areas concern you and how you want your face framed. For broader questions about candidacy and recovery, our hair transplant guide for women covers those topics separately.

Can a hair transplant create a more feminine hairline?

A feminizing plan can include rounding the front outline, addressing the temples and planning density. Hairline height is another possible change, rather than the whole design.

Capitán and colleagues describe “the more rounded shape often seen in female hairlines.” They identify the temples, overall shape, density and sometimes height as parts of hairline feminization.

So ask the surgeon to explain the proposed outline on your own scalp. If your priority is rounding the corners, have that discussion before agreeing to a plan described only as lowering the hairline.

Our hairline transplant guide covers the broader design discussion. Here, the useful question is whether the proposed shape matches your stated goal and what the surgeon expects to leave unchanged.

What changes the hairline design?

Discuss the temple points and recessed corners alongside the front edge. Ask where the surgeon would place hair and how they would divide the available grafts between shape and density.

The Bangkok Hair Clinic patient in the opening described asking for a rounder line and discussing density during consultation. A request for a particular outline also needs a conversation about how much coverage the plan gives each area.

A Hair Restoration Network author described weighing temple, mid-scalp and crown work against donor supply, with different clinician estimates. So if several areas concern you, ask which gets priority and which could remain untreated.

Bring reference images and explain what you like about them. Ask the surgeon how your existing hairline, hair characteristics and donor assessment affect the proposed design, rather than adopting someone else's graft count.

Hair transplant versus surgical hairline advancement

Surgical hairline advancement, often called hairline lowering surgery, is a separate procedure. A transplant moves follicular grafts, the small pieces of tissue containing hair follicles.

Garcia-Rodriguez and colleagues describe advancement as a procedure for shortening the forehead and addressing temporal recesses. The two procedures need a comparison based on your anatomy and goals.

Ask your surgeon about suitability and sequencing, particularly if you're considering other facial gender-affirming surgery. A patient on r/transtimelines described hairline lowering during facial feminization surgery and a later transplant; that sequence belongs to their care plan.

How are scalp hair transplants done?

Scalp transplantation involves moving follicular grafts into the areas being treated. The extraction and placement plan needs to be explained alongside the hairline drawing, so you know what the proposed operation includes.

Thai clinics use different technique labels in their gender-affirming service descriptions. Ultima lists FUE and FUT beneath its transgender-service description; its published wording is linked in the clinic table below.

Ask the clinic to explain the technique it proposes in plain language. Our FUE versus FUT comparison covers the differences between those transplant methods in more detail.

Ask why the surgeon proposes that method for your scalp and donor area. Also ask who will perform extraction and placement, and what shaving or trimming the proposed procedure requires.

Hormone therapy, hair changes and transplant timing

Motosko and Tosti's systematic review states: “Hormonal therapy alters hair growth; however, supplemental treatments are frequently required to achieve the hair growth patterns that patients desire.”

For trans women with existing pattern hair loss, the review describes variable scalp regrowth after starting feminizing hormone therapy. It also cites studies reporting little effect on scalp hair loss.

That leaves a personal timing question for your doctors: how do your current scalp changes and broader care plan affect whether to assess surgery now? An International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) webinar page says transgender individuals require collaboration among hair restoration surgeons, endocrinologists and other specialists, and one of its learning objectives is to describe “the clinical criteria that determine the indication and appropriate timing for hair transplantation.”

Ask your prescribing clinician and hair-transplant surgeon how your hormone regimen affects the timing of a consultation. If another gender-affirming procedure is planned, ask them to coordinate that discussion too.

Don't start, stop or change a medicine based on this guide.

Scalp hair transplants for trans men

For trans men, the consultation can address scalp thinning or a desired hairline shape. Bring your hormone history and ask the clinician to assess the thinning pattern alongside donor supply.

Motosko and Tosti discuss pattern scalp hair loss during masculinizing hormone therapy. Ask your prescribing clinician and surgeon how that evidence relates to your own scalp changes and future plan; a transplant consultation shouldn't become a reason to change testosterone on your own.

Candidate questions for a scalp transplant

Ask the surgeon to assess both the area you want treated and the donor area that would supply the grafts. Mediren's consultation description includes scalp condition, donor quality and hormone-use history, alongside the patient's hairline goal.

We'd ask for the proposed priorities to be written down: which part of the hairline changes, where density is being added, and what remains outside the plan. If you also have thinning farther back, ask how the surgeon accounts for it.

A useful donor discussion explains what the surgeon has assessed and what still needs an in-person examination. Ask how the proposed graft allocation preserves options if your scalp thinning changes later.

A photograph consultation can begin that conversation. Ask what might change after the in-person assessment.

Technique, duration, recovery and safety

Ask the operating surgeon for the expected session length and a follow-up schedule for your procedure. Get the planned clinic-review dates before choosing a return flight.

The Bangkok Hair Clinic patient reported difficulty sleeping and flying home five days after surgery. So use your own surgeon's assessment to plan departure, rather than copying that patient's itinerary.

Discuss who handles concerns during the stay and after you return home. Ask how you can reach a clinician, when photographs are enough for review, and which concerns need local medical care.

Follow your own surgeon's written post-procedure instructions and ask your doctor about any conflicting advice.

Our hair transplant aftercare guide covers questions to discuss with your clinic. Have the clinic explain its instructions before travel, including what to do if you can't attend a planned review.

What does a transgender hair transplant cost in Thailand?

The four clinics and hospitals below publish relevant scalp-hair services, but none lists a transplant price on the cited page. You'll need a written quote for your proposed design and graft estimate.

For broader standard-FUE context, AsiaPatient's price sheet dated 23 September 2026 records patient-reported prices of ฿36-123 per graft. It covers five Bangkok clinics, with 31 reports and quotes spanning 2023 to 2026.

Those records aren't prices for the transgender services listed below, and they don't establish your total. So compare quotes for the actual procedure: which areas are treated, how many grafts are proposed and what the quoted amount includes.

Ask whether the quote covers the clinical work and follow-up you discussed. Have the clinic identify exclusions and explain what happens to the price if the plan changes after the in-person examination.

If you're searching for “MTF hair transplant cost,” request a quote for the scalp design you want. A price without the proposed areas and graft estimate gives you little basis for comparing clinics.

Thai clinics and hospitals that publish transgender or gender-affirming scalp-hair services

We compare what clinics publish and have not visited these clinics or had procedures at them. These listings describe published services, without ranking the clinics or assessing their surgical work.

The service pages and home pages below were read 26 October 2026. None displayed a scalp-hair transplant price on the cited page.

Clinic or hospitalPublished scalp-hair servicePrice on the cited page
Mediren Clinic“LGBTQ Hair Transplant Services at Mediren Clinic.” Describes feminine, masculine and gender-neutral goals. No published price
Ultima Hair Center, Bangkok“Transgender Hair Transplant” and “Private consultations available.” Lists FUE and FUT in that service block. No published price
Kamol Hospital, BangkokDescribes care for “Trans women who want a lower, softer or more rounded hairline.”No published price
Vegaderma, Bangkok“Our team works with male, female, transgender, and hormone-related hair loss cases.” Describes scalp density and hairline work.No published price

Ask each clinic for scalp cases relevant to your goals and an explanation of who would design and perform your procedure. Published transgender-service wording gives you a starting point for that conversation.

Ultima's privacy wording is also a reason to ask what a private consultation involves. Confirm practical arrangements for photographs, communication and your clinic visit before booking.

Planning the Thailand trip

Kamol Hospital publishes an online preliminary assessment before travel and describes multilingual coordinators and trip support. Ask who conducts the clinical consultation, which language is available and who will handle travel questions.

Before booking flights, confirm when the clinic wants you to arrive, which appointments require your presence and when the surgeon expects to assess departure. Ask what would happen to your schedule if the in-person assessment changes the proposed operation.

For follow-up after returning home, HairTran says international patients can send photographs for doctor review and arrange a video call with a doctor, read 26 October 2026. Ask your chosen clinic whether it offers the same access and who reviews your messages.

Check the current official entry requirements for your nationality through the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Confirm clinic documentation separately, especially which details it needs to match your travel documents.

Before you book: inclusive-care and travel handoff checklist

Ask the clinic these questions before paying a deposit. Get the answers in writing, so you can refer to them during the trip and after you return home.

A trans patient in the Bangkok Hair Clinic thread wrote, “I mentioned in all the emails I sent,” in a reply about emails to several clinics. If communication or privacy is a concern for you, ask the clinic to explain its arrangements directly.

Questions to bring to a surgeon and clinic

Use the clinical consultation to connect your hairline goal with the proposed operation. We would bring these questions alongside the travel checklist:

Ask the surgeon to explain differences between proposed plans. If one estimate prioritizes the front and another includes the crown, compare that allocation before comparing the totals.

Insurance and documentation

Coverage and documentation requirements vary. Ask your insurer and surgeon what applies to your policy and the proposed scalp procedure in Thailand.

Ask which documents the insurer needs and which the clinic can supply. Confirm the details required on invoices and medical records directly with both, rather than assuming they match ordinary clinic communication.

What patients report

A patient discussing Thailand on r/transgenderau said they brought a reference image for “a rounded non masc feminine hairline.” They reported that the clinic was comfortable discussing it.

A trans woman comparing Turkey and Thailand wrote on r/Hairtransplant, “I cannot find any objective reviews.” In the same discussion, a commenter wrote, “Going from masculine hairline to feminine hairline is a bit of a skill.”

Ask for cases that show the design you're considering, then read the patient's own account where one is available. Look for what they requested at consultation, what the clinic proposed and what they reported later.

A nonbinary patient on r/MtF described their early expectation as “a big improvement but not ‘perfect’ hair.” Ask your surgeon which limits to expect from your proposed plan, including areas where coverage may remain limited.

Sources and how we list clinics

We use peer-reviewed papers, ISHRS material, clinic service pages and attributed patient accounts. Patient reports describe individual experiences and aren't medical evidence.

Clinics cannot pay to be listed or ranked higher on AsiaPatient.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hair transplant give me a feminine hairline?

It can address that goal. Capitán and colleagues describe rounding the outline, addressing the temples, planning density and sometimes changing hairline height. Ask the surgeon to explain what those changes would mean on your scalp and which limits apply to your donor supply.

Is a hair transplant the same as hairline lowering surgery?

Surgical hairline advancement is a separate procedure; a transplant moves follicular grafts. Garcia-Rodriguez and colleagues describe advancement as a way to shorten the forehead and address temporal recesses. Ask your surgeon to compare suitability and sequencing for your goals, particularly if other facial surgery is planned.

Does hormone therapy change when I should have a transplant?

It belongs in the timing discussion with your doctors. Motosko and Tosti describe variable scalp-hair changes with feminizing hormone therapy. Ask your prescribing clinician and hair-transplant surgeon how your current changes and broader care plan affect assessment; don't change medication based on this guide.

Which Thai clinics offer transgender hair transplants, and what do they cost?

Mediren, Ultima, Kamol Hospital and Vegaderma publish relevant transgender, LGBTQ+ or hormone-related scalp-hair services. None lists a scalp transplant price on the page linked in our clinic table. Request a written quote tied to your proposed hairline, graft estimate and follow-up arrangements.

How can I find useful patient reviews of a feminizing hair transplant?

Look for accounts explaining the original goal and consultation, with later updates from the same patient. The Bangkok Hair Clinic account on r/Transgender_Surgeries describes a request for a rounded line and a density discussion. Compare that level of detail with the questions your own clinic has answered.

What should I ask if I'm worried about overharvesting?

Ask how the surgeon assessed donor supply, how much the proposed operation would use and what options would remain afterward. A Hair Restoration Network author described balancing several scalp priorities against donor supply. Get the surgeon to explain the allocation across your own scalp before agreeing to a graft total.
